WestofHouse
The beta is now out for XB1, PS4, and PC! I'm downloading it now to my XB1 (a little over 7GB). I watched a bit of the streaming event the other day on Twitch. I certainly looks and sounds gorgeous. I can't wait to experience the game play.
cimerians
I'm going to try this out, here's the links to get the beta for those not sure: PS4 XB1 PC (Origin Req.) I played the recent Star Wars: Battle Pod at a local Namco restaurant called Level 257 Movie's coming out too. Time to get hyped up I guess. Hope this game lives up to it but one thing I'm very disappointed with is there are no space battles. Arrghhh
+remowilliams
I played the recent Star Wars: Battle Pod at a local Namco restaurant called Level 257 That looks cool, and according to the site even features Air Blust. lol
cimerians
Ha..I posted some pics of that place here a while back: http://atariage.com/forums/topic/235416-namcos-level-257-arcaderestaurant-schaumburg-il/ I like that they have old Pinball games like Black Knight etc. The Star Wars pod was put in later. My wife took a short video of me playing it, I look like a grown man who never had the toy he always wanted as a kid When I think of it, all we had was 2600 Empire Strikes Back and the Star Wars Arcade game.....oh and maybe Star Raiders. Kind of liked the Return of the Jedi game on the 2600 too. I remember playing that one a lot.
xenomorpher
Been playing on PS4 so my username is xenorpher, not xenomorpher, if anyone wants to add me and play. Not sure if there's a party system or not. I was originally going to preorder it for PC but Walmart had the edition with the small fridge so I preordered it on PS4. Anyways, I like it so far. It doesn't feel like a Battlefront game or a reskinned Battlefield either. It feels more chaotic than previous games, but I've been playing that one mode securing the pods so that feeling might change with other modes. Took awhile getting used to not reloading, I kept hitting the square button since I tend to reload a lot in other games. I'm happy I preordered it and think I'll have loads of fun with it come November. Too bad they aren't releasing it sooner like the end of this month. Fallout 4 is going to take a lot of play time from it I'm sure.
goldenegg
This game is enough to make me tear up with immense joy. They've absolutely nailed it! On top of everything, it's insanely stunning to look at. I've downloaded it on PC, XB1 and PS4. I plan to buy it for PC, but wanted to see how the console ports stack up. While ultra settings on PC look better, it's a fairly minimal difference (viewed on the same 55" 1080P display). The consoles versions are extremely impressive. I've experienced a couple of small hiccups in audio on the console versions, but I'm sure those will be addressed before launch.
+wongojack
It is an FPS right? Multiplayer only? I'd say that is worth less than $5 to me. I'd probably play it once or twice with you guys and never touch it again.
goldenegg
Yes, it's primarily multiplayer. There are single player missions, but not a full end-to-end campaign.
xenomorpher
It has third person camera too you can switch to on the fly if that helps any. You can pilot some vehicles like past games as well. The A-Wing controlled fairly well with a controller. The beta is free so you might as well try it at least. cimerians
It's...alright. Single player was boring. Multiplayer was pretty cool where at first I was like "this is Star Wars!!!!".......and then it too fell into the boring category. By the end the only cool thing is running around in a snowtrooper outfit, the gameplay was kind of clunky too but maybe I'm used to superb shooters like COD and Destiny.....oh yeah and there's that Halo game coming soon. I'll be holding off on this because if there is no single player campaign it might not be worth it especially at 60 bucks.

WestofHouse
I fired it up last night. The mode I played the most was “You have lost connection to the EA servers.” I never was able to connect to a Drop Zone match, but I got in a couple of Walker Assault matches. My early thoughts: 1) It looks and sounds gorgeous. Hey, I'm in Star Wars! 2) All multiplayer FPS games reward teamwork, but Walker Assault requires it for the rebels because the Empire has such a big advantage. I don't know how many times I heard "Focus all your fire on the AT-AT!" only to find myself the only one firing at the AT-AT. 3) The number of shots it takes to kill someone is too damn high. I'm not expecting one-shot-kills as seen in the films, but three or four shots should do it, especially from a laser rifle. 4) I only flew once -- a TIE -- and it ended in disaster. 5) I like the way they incorporate the heroes, but they should have devised a better way for them to "die." Just having Luke kneel down in the snow looks pretty ridiculous. 6) Driving and firing an AT-AT was just shy of orgasmic. Overall I enjoy it, but I'm second-guessing my pre-order a bit. I need to experience the other modes before making a judgement, but after the initial excitement of being in the SW universe wore off it felt like a slightly above-average shooter. cimerians
Pretty much my thoughts too, although I'm horrible at FPS multiplayer. I stink too but I was able to get easy kills because the game has many issues (beta) including horrible netcode. I shot people through snow banks many times and likewise. Also, how long will these EA servers hold up befored being unplugged? Apparently they ARE using dedicated servers but it was definitely clunky. This could end up being a disaster. Wait and see I guess.
xenomorpher
I think my biggest complaint is how bad the respawn system works. In past games you got to select a respawn point or at least a main base where you could get your bearings if you were too overwhelmed. With this version it's almost random which is completely stupid. You do get the option of spawning next to a buddy which is better than nothing I guess. The power ups are cool but can be hard to get to as sometimes they disappear. They possibly might have been "moved" at least for the Hoth stage since no one tends to hang around the beginning of the map when the game is at a later stage. I've yet to be in the AT-AT but was able to give the AT-ST a go a few times. I played as Luke for a bit and was pretty fun and felt good. Also been reading a lot how unbalanced Hoth is as the Rebels. It's definitely harder as the Rebels, but have been in a few games where they've won while I was on their team and on the Empire doing everything I could. If I compare this to the older Battlefront games it is somewhat disapointing. By itself as a game it is still very fun and the shooting is miles better than previous games. They nailed the atmosphere and details so it doesn't come off as cheap to me. I hope the final version will have plenty of maps and maybe fix that respawn issue. So far the original first Battlefront game is still my absolute favorite hands down.

cimerians
Wow....mine doesn't meet the minimum either which is why I downloaded it on a PS4. I read its around 900p and between 50-60fps. It looks fantastic though, just wish the gameplay didn't feel cheap and clunky. Hoping the final release is better.

goldenegg
Now that I've played on all 3 platforms, I want to go back to my previous statements regarding graphic quality across each release. In the single player missions, all platforms look great. The PC port looks slightly better, but not by enough to notice without having the images side-by-side. In multiplayer, that's where things change. Graphic quality on the consoles is very obviously decreased in the multiplayer map, which is likely due to the systems not being able to keep up the high graphic quality with 40 players in the game. The XB1 takes the biggest hit, with texture quality having a major downgrade along with a reduction (or total lack of) anti-aliasing. The PS4 version fairs quite a bit better. Textures are noticeably higher quality than the XB1, but still not at the quality of the PC. Like the XB1, there is much more aliasing in multiplayer. With all that said, the console ports are still fairly impressive. I do hope they can do something to improve graphics on XB1 multiplayer, as it really takes away from how absolutely gorgeous this game can be. WestofHouse
I finally got into a Drop Zone match last night. I enjoyed that more than the Walker Assault mode. For some reason the hit detection and shooting felt better in that mode, but maybe that is because the map is more condensed and fighting is closer, or perhaps I was just getting more accustomed to the weapons. Still, this game just feels like a Playstation 1 shooter to me, and I can't put my finger on why. Maybe it is because it the lack of classes, skills, and meager weapon selection. Those factors will certainly limit replay value for me. And don't get me started on the grenade spamming. Grenades shouldn't recharge. You should start out with one or two and that's it until you respawn.

I haven't played the series in a while, but if memory serves it's stuff like recharging health/shields, limited weapons (unless picked up) and no classes. Some elements are pretty similar to later Halo games too -- jet packs and an emergency shield ("drop shield") come to mind from Halo Reach; though the latter may not exactly count. boog
Does single player/split screen multiplayer still work if you're not online with this beta? If the game is going to be a coaster once EA shuts down the servers then I'll pass...

There's no story or campaign mode....as far as I can tell its just a survival mode.
omegadot
I played the survival mode deal a bit and it was enjoyable for the pew pew pew of it but the level wasn't that inspiring and the gameplay was fairly dull alone. Today I got to play the pod drop mode and while the downed ship set pieces were super cool the environment itself was meh for me. That said, I had a blast. I thought it sounded great and played great. The graphics are standard fare but they are Star Wars so I'm happy. I've loved the visuals since I was a wee lad. I hope the level design is a bit more enjoyable further into the game's content. So many games to get I'm not sure I'll jump in at launch. I thought the loading screen with the Storm Trooper helmet was odd. I have a replica helmet with the painted on vents and that's pretty much what it looked like. Maybe it's an inside joke I'm not entirely aware of.
