sparkdrummer
So yesterday I broke out one of my Myarc HFDC controllers. I did the fix with switch to speed up and/or eliminate the wait for the card to look for a hard drive (Thanks Gazoo). Hooked up a 20 meg and a 40 meg drive and started having some fun. But I noticed as I was fooling around with the freshly installed hardware that those drives on occasion sound a bit pissed that I've brought them out of their 20 year or so slumber. click, clack, whir, wheeze. So I got to thinking, I wonder if anyone has come up with an MFM hard drive emulator that will replace these aging drives? And if so, I wonder if they will work with the Myarc Card? -Ralph... +mizapf
I have not heard anything about a MFM HD emulator. Mind that these drives are basically like floppy drives with 12 times faster rotational speed (3600 rpm), and more heads and cylinders. That is, any emulator would have to be pretty much like that Lotharek HXC Floppy emulator. Maybe contact him?
RickyDean
I have been watching the following to see if it would be a good replacment: http://www.pdp8.net/mfm/mfm.shtml I thinks it shows some promise for US!
