POKEY'S 15kHz

Some suggestions for a tune to convert?

Preferably, a MOD File, based on a SID with main 3 Channels?

Really, those tunes only use 15kHz and filter ( 2 operator sounds) . Imagine, the tunes have the possiblity of additional 16 Bit sound. Renditions, like Robocop, would be no problem with POKEY anymore...

What do you think about the ocean loader tune? Would be really nice to have a good conversion for the lil Atari.

Hm.... seems a perfect start for a conversion, as it really uses the different instruments in the MOD file for the variations of SID sounds and it is a 3 channel MOD all the time.

I should give it a try.

Several restitriction will appear.... but... let's see ... äh ... hear ;)

The Ocean loader, a piece of SID ;) that never could reach the A8, because of POKEY's restrictions .

Not much time around, so I release this video of the current state.

Actually, I'm not sure what could be done better/additionally, using just 15kHz ...

When I'm listening to this, I think, it could be done better and the Arpeggios were not really friendly to me.

A Tool for sound development is still missing, and 2 operator sounds were not used , because of huge time consumption for development... without a development tool ;)

But, I'd say, it's the best "Ocean Loader" available to the A8 yet... not to say, "impossible" on the A8 ;)

Oooh, completely out of tune. My ears just got knotted.

Blahblah... I really like those useless comments.

The tune is NOT completely out of tune. There are actually 2 short parts that don't really fit together, making the tune not a fluent as it should be. And I'm thinking about a solution for that...

PG is spitting on you MK. I can't remember any positive comments from PG.

Things get interesting, when they like stuff that is even more out of tune ...

It sounds like a bad MOD -> RMT conversion. Just rescale one or more parts. Then it would sound better.

The solution would be to have the real 16 bit available for that missing parts in the lead.

The arpeggios could get better with mixing gen. 2 1.79MHz into them.

analmux: I do not criticize emkay's effort, I was just complaining that it is... well.. demanding to listen so such a wrong rendition of that great song. I know emkay has not musical ear and I understand that it is difficult for him to make the tuning right. And I also appreciate his effort in exploring POKEY's possibilities. By the way, Instrumentarium is one of my favourite tunes. And it really hurts me that you say that I never post anything positive.

You're funny, really. I really like your programming skills, but , as it seems, you don't even realize what I'm doing with POKEY the slightest way.

15kHz is , per calculation 4 times more "off" the road than 64kHz. But timing programming helps a lot to do workarounds. Actually, doing horrible sounds to prevent people from recognizing the "off pitch" , like Poison does, seems accepted... at 64kHz, while I am creating sound with "fitting melodic parts" that you don't hear in most "64kHz" tunes...And I'm trying to create better sounds for the ears and try to make the best music with that. And without a "sound development tool" this cost tremendous counts of time. Also, I'm not a musician, but my ears recognize "Music" well.

Particular this Ocean Loader has Parts that were "off" , but SID is compensating that with the created sounds.

A piece of Music is worth nothing without the fitting sounds.

And for the reason of "knotting" your ears, "V2" ... ;)

My goal would be reached , if someone uses my "experiments" to aid that with a special tool for sound development, but most I get is silly and dumb comments...

btw. from 2:00 the tune cannot be done better ...

The best solution still would be to use 64kHz and digis for bass notes... But coders don't care...

@ pseudografx

Thanks for saying you like instrumentarium. But we're talking about emkay's work here, not mine. Just telling him about your complaints, saying this one of his works sounds out of tune, is just plainly annoying and provocative. Positive (or at least helpful) comments are missing. And just rescaling can help a lot. Finally, doing a check of a MOD-2-RMT conversion shows that it already suffers with out-of-tune parts.
