ave1
For me the game has to be Ms. Pac-Man. Sooo much closer to the arcade than most of the 2600 games that are arcade ports. I also really appreciate BMX Airmaster and Tunnel Runner. Let's here your's...
Nutsy Doodleheimer
For me it would be: Missle Command. It is faithful to the arcade version. Also when all your cities are destroyed the screen flashing and the exploding sounds give me goosebumps. Asteroids. Also a great game I love the Jaws like sound and the sound when you fire away at the incoming asteroids. Yars' Revenge. The whirring sound plus destroying the coatile is what truly defines the 2600. +save2600
For the games I had BITD, Ms. Pac was easily one of the most impressive. Alien, Jungle Hunt, Moon Patrol and Joust all blew me away too. Raiders was pretty damned good as well, from a technical and complex point of view. Infiltrate, Cosmic Ark, Mousetrap, Wizard of Wor, Gorf, Reactor and Starmaster are some others that I absolutely loved. Still do! Stargate, Ghostbusters, Jr. Pac, Midnight Magic and Solaris all blew me away in the late '80's/early 90's. Revitalized my interest in the system in fact and soon afterwards, started pursuing carts I didn't used to have or knew existed. Like Montezuma's Revenge, Time Pilot, Frontline, Mr. Do! and Track and Field.
Feralstorm
Pitfall 2 was nifty to me, mostly for the music which could shift moods, though I grew up more with the Commodore 64 version. One that surprised me a lot was Solaris. I had a base understanding of how Atari 2600 graphics worked, so seeing a planet with a frickin' tilted ring on it was borderline mind-blowing, because at the time I was sure Atari graphics could not work that way. NE146
Demon Attack absolutely blew me away in it's heyday. After that I have to say Ms. Pac. was a shock after Pacman set the VCS expectation

Andromeda Stardust
Man, wish I could have been there with you guys. I'm a product of the NES generation who didn't play Atari until 2012. You know what blows me away? Homebrew. I mean, imagine if this came out in 1982: http://atariage.com/forums/topic/229152-new-pacman-for-atari-2600/ instead of the abomination that passed for Pacman?
PhoenixMoonPatrol
Was a really fun era with the 2600. I still remember waiting and waiting and waiting for Pit Fall 2 to drop. That game was an eye opener in everything that a game should be. Could not believe the size of the levels and the fact that they had music constantly playing during the game was shocking. You know what I miss about the 2600 era. Walking into a department store and watching kids playing the games. I was part of that and it seems that era is lost now. You'll see a kid at a kiosk at a GameStop playing a game but you don't see a group huddled around a tv like you use to in the 70's and early 80's. I guess because gaming was new back then, way more excitement when you saw a game being played on a tv in those days. Today when a kid tries a game out they look sort of halfway bored inside GameStops. Late 70's were a great era when gaming dropped into Sears and Montgomery Ward stores. Lentzquest
As a kid I always found Dragonfire to be very impressive. I'm not really sure why.
mikey.shake
When I was a little kid, it was generally the "full-color" games that wowed me. Keystone Kapers, Frogger, Ms. Pac-Man, Pitfall, and the like. Stuff with big, bright, cartoony graphics. Space shooters were great, but my kiddie brain saw black backgrounds as "empty space", whereas every bit of Keystone Mall was bursting with vibrancy. But what did I know, I was just a dumb kid. Flojomojo
Solaris was awesome! Pitfall II was another later game with lots of technical chops. I enjoyed playing Stargate with a mostly-broken trackball hookedup as Player 1 -- in a pinch I could whack the big buttons for (in descending order, depending on availability) Smart Bomb, Inviso, and Hyperspace. What a great game.

WildBillTX
Missile Command - I came home from college in 1982 to find my brother playing it on our brand new 2600. Freeway - My first Activision game. I was impressed with it in 1982 because it had all these cars and trucks on the screen. Frogger - WOW that introduction music! Asteroids Demon Attack Spider Fighter - a great fast game that sadly gets overlooked. Enduro Beamrider Jr, Pac-Man - Because it was so tough.
