Andromeda Stardust
Any release date for this one? +1. Still waiting for those "Late November" games...
macdlsa
So we arrived at the end of waiting... And the expectations are very well rewarded: Scramble2600 is an A-W-E-S-O-M-E game, everywhere everyone watch it ! Graphics, playability, handling of the spaceship, difficulty balance and, of course "arcade feeling"... all is really extraordinary ! Thanks, John (and Nathan) ! You just did one of the most excellent VCS' game EVER ! And I'm proud to had been useful, in some way . I bet it will be a best-seller on the Store ! iesposta
In post 1 of this thread. WOW In one day: Here is the latest build from 2016-01-06: Attached File scramble_20160106.bin 617 downloads (Anyone notice, appreciate or hate, my suggestion of adding the twinkling stars, and that sometimes it has 3 real constellations? Bonus points if you can name all three!)

So the 01-06-2016 build is old. The last private developer/play-tester build was 12-19-2016. I got too excited by macdlsa's post, and thought there was a new release - and 01-06-2016 wasn't yesterday, it was yesterday a year ago! Sorry! +LS650
Geez, even on the novice level it's pretty tough! Edited January 8, 2017 by ls650

Bonus points if you can name all three!) One year anniversary of the latest public beta (technically yesterday ). Mind if I ask what changes have been made to the developer preview version that we have to look forward to in the final release? Star constellations from the arcade sound cool but I doubt there's room left in the 2600 in terms of ROM, RAM, CPU cycles, and hardware sprite limitations. It already goes way beyond the basic Atari limitations of two sprites, two missiles, and one ball.

Sorry! No problem. Just wanting to make sure I have the latest version as it's in my top 5 favorite homebrews. Thanks for nailing the accuracy of the arcade! iesposta
I can't say too much out of respect for Champ Games. It is up to him to decide what to say. I only work for him. Okay, it's not real work, but help and suggestions. The last four months of 2016 polished was added to Scramble. The difficulty ramp is much larger. Very easy to very expert. Somewhere along that ramp it is Arcade accurate, but continues into additions the Arcade Scramble didn't have. All information above may be changed as again it's not my game... but it does have stars, as I said above when sticking my foot into my mouth.

Shawn
Hi! The game is 100% complete and will *hopefully* be in the store for the holidays! Thats cool. Now what I'd really love to play is a solid Hockey game.
+save2600
Thats cool. Now what I'd really love to play is a solid Hockey game. Oooooooh... would love to see a side-view hockey game ala Blades of Steel for the 2600.

You may have missed it because I put it on the back burner for a couple years. I recently rebooted it to use Bus Stuffing, but it's still early in the rewrite so not much to see yet.

You just did one of the most excellent VCS' game EVER ! And I'm proud to had been useful, in some way . Thanks for the kind words Marco, and thanks very much to you for the game testing and helpful suggestions. I would also like to that Nathan, Bob D., Thomas, Darrell, Mike (iesposta), Dave (Dries) and Al for their help. Certainly without them this game would not have been possible. I can't say too much out of respect for Champ Games. It is up to him to decide what to say. I only work for him. Okay, it's not real work, but help and suggestions. Thanks Mike, and thanks for all your help, including the hidden constellations in the star field. The plan is to release the *final* ROM after the cartridge is made available in the store. Although it's been a year since the last *build*, as Mike says, it's really been that last 4 months on and off polishing the game for release (my main efforts have been on another game ). Here's what you can expect in the latest build (plus of course and amazing label, manual and box designed and created by David!): - stars! - NTSC and PAL60 versions - better difficulty ramping - 4 difficulty levels (NOVICE, STANDARD, ADVANCED, EXPERT) - better title screen - improved UI and menu controls - "auto fire" has been replaced with burst mode (similar to the method used in Juno First). No worries - it's not a thumb killer, and better yet it actually adds strategy and challenge back into the game! - better graphics, updated colors and a few new sounds - improved collision detection - Easter Eggs, plus an ending if you can clear all 99 levels I'm sure there is a bit more and the team and I are pretty happy with the results and we're sure the AA community will appreciate all the hard work that was put into this game. It's been fun to work on! Thanks, John Edited January 9, 2017 by johnnywc

zetastrike
I played this in the harmony last night. It keeps amazing me what wonderful things people are able to put out on the VCS these days.
Andromeda Stardust
I played this in the harmony last night. It keeps amazing me what wonderful things people are able to put out on the VCS these days. Yeah I actually used Scramble for a gameplay test of my Arcade Forge Black Retro Joystick review and teardown video. (skip to 2:20 for short Scramble gameplay) I still can't believe this thing is running on the VCS. It doesn't feel like a VCS game at all. Had this came out back in the day, I think gamers everywhere would have literally jizzed their pants...
Keatah
I would have jizzied mine no doubt. It appears better some arcade games of same relative time. It would be nice to see a Tempest or Zaxxon remake done in the same style. Meanwhile Imma go play Buried Bucks and start "testing" some of these XPC Cubes. +Nathan Strum
There was no ARM chip back in the day... It would be interesting to see how much of the ARM version would have to be stripped out to get it to work on an early 80's era cart. Depressing, but interesting. Keatah
The age old question, is it a VCS game? Or is it an ARM game?
Thomas Jentzsch
The age old question, is it a VCS game? Or is it an ARM game? Actually the question was, if it would have been possible back in the day.
