As a sidenote: is autofire missing from the released version? I just got hooked again and found my poor fingertips longing for it soon after :D

We felt autofire made the game too easy - it removed any need to think about your shots/bombs, which is a key part of Scramble's gameplay. As a compromise, we changed it to "burst mode", which autofires a string of shots, but requires you to re-press the button for each burst. Of course manual fire is still there for people who want to play the game properly. ;)

Can't get it to work here, no combination of switch positions does the trick.

Whatever ROM version burned onto the cart I purchased from the AA store works when played on hardware.

One minor gripe is the "auto-fire" affects the bombs as well, resulting in double shots every time I tap the button. I made a modified SMS schematic that detects as Genesis controller on the Atari 2600. Toggle switch selects SMS+ and 7800 modes:

This also works great if you want turbo on the bullets but not the bombs:

I generally just use standard mode since "burst" mode trips me up too much.

Okay! Got it working. VisionDapter set to Autosense with a 7800 controller. Used Joy-to-Key to to map joystick to keyboard, then mapped Stella 5.01 to keyboard with booster/trigger both set to 4. Both Stay Frosty 2 and Scramble2600 work in 2-button mode.

Edit: Can't seem to even get movement doing this with the 2600daptor set to 7800.

Thanks for your help!

Vision-daptor supports Genesis 3 & 6 button and 7800 Pro-line.  Hold the Genesis Start button for the auto detect.  It's been a long time since I looked at the Genesis and 2600-daptor, so I'll have to go back and look at that again.  Currently out eclipse chasing, so will be a couple days.

If you are referring to Scramble2600, the fastest you can fire is 3 shots/2bombs per button press in burst mode. Probably need an auto-fire module for continuous firing.

Makes sense :) I guess I'll have to add an autofire mode to 6502.ts in order to keep myself from smashing in my digits and / or my keyboard :P

@johnnywc, I'd like to get the ROMs added to the properties database.  So can you provide the following info for each released ROM:

Cartridge_Manufacturer

Cartridge_ModelNo

Cartridge_Name

Cartridge_Note

I used SW-01 for Medieval Mayhem, perhaps CG-01 for Lady Bug, CG-02 for Conquest of Mars, CG-03 for Scramble, and CG-04 for your forthcoming project.

I see some Notes mentioning support for the Genesis controller, such as Princess Rescue, which would make sense for Scramble.

On that note, looks like I need to submit some updates as well - I don't see Stay Frosty 2 or Space Rocks, and I don't believe Stay Frosty was stereo (entry was probably was cloned from Medieval Mayhem).  Will work that up tonight.

Thanks for the feedback Darrell!

Stephen - I have updated the post above with Darrell's suggestion. Could you update the Model number for Lady Bug and Conquest of Mars (both NTSC and PAL versions) to be CG-01 and CG-02, respectively? Actually, should the model # be different for NTSC and PAL versions? (ie. CG-03-N for NTSC and CG-03-P for PAl60, for example?)

Thanks,
John

Properties database??? within Stella?

Properties database??? within Stella?

Yep, I linked to it in my prior reply.  Stella uses the info to configure controllers, TV-Type when it can't autodetect (like for PAL60), if the sound is stereo, etc.  It's indexed off the MD5 value for the BIN file, which you can view in the Game Properties page:

Screen Shot 2017-08-25 at 8.44.06 AM.png

I still need to work up the rest of mine, got a bit side tracked getting ready for Hurricane Harvey.  Looks like it'll hit near my sister down in Corpus Christi, but we're still expecting to see a lot of rain and flooding here in Houston.

Cool! I never realized Stella did that!

You can say that again.

I still can't believe I'm playing a VCS game.

Played Super Cobra afterwards: a day and night difference.

Looking forward to your next release.

Keep up the good work!

Nice review.  Playing the rom now.  Looks like this will be the next homebrew game I buy for my Atari!
