BillyHW
It was like a Simon, but rectangular and there there were 6 buttons (or possibly 8?) in an oval pattern, rather than 4 buttons in in a circle. Each of the buttons would light up to musical notes during the demonstration round and also when you pressed them during the copy round. It actually worked really well, better than a Simon IMHO. goldenegg
Simon 2? http://www.handheldmuseum.com/MB/Simon2.htm
BillyHW
Simon 2? http://www.handheldmuseum.com/MB/Simon2.htm Nope, that's not it. The buttons were circular (or oval) and the whole unit was rectangular shape and black plastic (with maybe some silver plastic on top where the buttons were, not sure though). 0078265317
Sounds familiar. I am also drawing a blank.
BillyHW
It looked more like this, but the whole unit was rectangular and black plastic and the buttons were round or oval. From the 80s probably. Edited November 29, 2015 by BillyHW

BillyHW
FYI it was a really fun game and worked really well. The buttons would light up and it was very musical. It was better than Simon. Edited November 29, 2015 by BillyHW

0078265317
I found the british version similar to simon. http://www.ebay.com/itm/GOTCHA-Toytronic-Handheld-Electronic-Game-2381-British-Design-USA-Chips-/262159544113?hash=item3d09ed2f31:g:0ZUAAOSwf-VWVSMH

BTW, when I remember seeing my first Simon with only 4 buttons instead of 8 I remember thinking to myself, "Only 4 buttons? Is this like for retarded kids or something?" LOL,
