AtariGeezer Posted December 12, 2015 Share Posted December 12, 2015 I'm about to crack open my new STacy 2 that I bought a week ago on ebay and looking for the schematics in jpg or pdf format. It didn't have a PSU with it, but found a Zenith 16.5v @ 2A for it. Yesterday I tried to power it up for the fist time and after 6 seconds the screen lit up nice and bright and eventually showed the desktop for 3 seconds, then got two horizontal lines instead. I powered it down and waited a few seconds, then tried to power up again, but no go... So I suspect that the caps in the internal converter went bad and now need a set of schematics to fix it... The Jpegs are 4.5 megs, but of considerably less quality.. However, the link to the larger set of files is good. I just tried it. The scan quality is *much* better on the larger files. I highly recommend downloading them if you would rather avoid going blind. The link should be fixed. Hmm, I bought those schematics from either Best or B&C - thought they were complete when I scanned them in and uploaded them via dropbox to Lonny. I'll go back and check, see what I can find. This was the complete set that I bought from them. The scans, as you see them in the larger set, are exactly how they look here before scanning. (in other words, it appears that the schematics I bought are scans themselves). If you can find the schematics for the Mega STe's internal hard drive controller, maybe you can use them? I believe they are identical (someone correct me here if I'm wrong). I know the adapter I bought from Alan to use the Ultrasatan with my STacy also works with the Mega STe. AtariGeezer Posted December 21, 2015 Author Share Posted December 21, 2015 Using a DVM, I checked C105 in circuit and it showed a fast charge/discharge when reversing the meter leads, so I removed it and checked it out of circuit and seems to be good. I then connected the DC to DC Converter up to the Power Supply and still measured -1 volt out of the 79L12 and -3 vols on the -20 volt rail. The DVM still showed NO A.C. voltage being developed on the output of L101 or any DC voltage after D102, so I removed D102 from the circuit. Reconnected the power supply and the DVM still showed NO A.C. voltage being developed on the output of L101, the meter only buzzed at a high pitch. So I dug out the old Simpson 260 analog meter and it showed 3 vols A.C. voltage being developed on the output of L101, which should be somewhere between 18 to 24 volts... I suspect that the MB3759 circuit isn't oscillating at the right frequency, I'll have to dig out the freq counter and do a few measurements. (I've never worked on a switching power supply before)... @Darklord, could you check the part numbers of the components on your printout with ones with a Question Mark and let me know what you can see? AtariGeezer Posted December 28, 2015 Author Share Posted December 28, 2015 Today I connected the STacy up to a Monochrome monitor, plugged in the DC - DC Converter and Hard Drive with the controller and it booted up fine. So the +5 Volt and +12 volt outputs are rock steady, The L101 Secondary or maybe the Primary windings must be partially shorted out to cause the problem... Anyone have a part number for L101??? How about this - PM me your address and I'll send you the DC converter portions of the scans and let you look at them directly. Then when you're finished with them, you can return them. Sound okay? I'm 56, that's why I suggested that, I use perscription glasses along with that combo so I can "see" better while looking at pcb's and soldering Yout offer sounds nice, but if your eyes can't make it out, not sure if I'll have any better luck, but I will think about it... AtariGeezer Posted March 12, 2016 Author Share Posted March 12, 2016 Finally got around to checking this STacy out further and in the last few days I've replaced the on-board battery, socketed the WD1772 and replaced with a new one. Fired it up yesterday (still with the LCD Display disconnected) with a SM124 monitor as last time and now it won't boot up to the desktop. Soldering was triple cheched and no bridges or floating bits of solder, so it might be tempermental. There are signs that this was worked on before I got it. I put it all back together and as before, the LED's just flash when turing the Power Switch ON or OFF and the hard drive isn't spinng up. Seems the LCD is sucking the life out it when all wired up...
