Jones567
I have received a atari 2600 from a family member and it was said that it worked I cleaned it up and plugged in a power supply I had gotten with the system and it worked for a while but then I heard a rather load sizzling sound in the system it was never worked after that so I opened it up and the 2200uf cap had fluid coming out of it I was just wondering as 8 did not have the right power supply plugged into it I ordered a kit of adapter for converting other power supplies to the removable tip kind of supply but my question is will the genesis 1 power supply be dangerous to use or I'm I good to go and try and make the atari work here is a link to the kit http://console5.com/store/dc-power-adaptor-set-convert-a-standard-power-supply-to-6-different-plugs.html
SSG
I wouldn't hook that up again. Looks like you need to replace that 2200uF cap and order yourself a 2600 power supply (Ebay would be your best bet). Edit: Also check and make sure it did not cause any other collateral damage. Jones567
The thing that's weird is that my multi meter says that a cap is still good And there is no stress marks or any thing like you see on a capacitor that has gone bad Edited December 31, 2015 by Jones567
SSG
That cap is going to fail eventually. Better to get it now than latter. You may be pushing to much current though the 2600 or have too much voltage.
Jones567
I get that but my question is will the sega genesis model 1 power supply work for it with the kit I have on the 2600?
Osgeld
should be fine, that cap was just probally old and rotten

7800fan
A dead 2600 console pops on eBay fairly often or you could ask in WTB thread. Just be sure to specify the console type. 6 switch heavy has thick bottom and won't fit later well if at all. 6 switch light and 4 switch can be mostly exchanged although the port hole is different, a 6 switch board won't fit in bottom of 4 switch shell, and if you got 4 switch top on 6 switch bottom, you'd have too many holes. Jr all fits each other, they only differ by the size of rainbow on the metal plate.
