Inky
Thinking on the Missing Arcade Classics thread makes me realize there are two serious holes in the 7800 library. 1) RPGs. There's Midnight Mutants, but then what? 2) Sports. Yes, there's a few sports games, but other than Ninja Golf and Mean 18, none of them are any good.Is there any other holes in the library that need to be plugged?
BydoEmpire
I don't really like the genre these days, but platformers. Definitely a hole in the 7800's library that its competitors had in spades.

DracIsBack
Strategy and RTS's. What the heck is an "RTS?" Plus one for Zelda type games and sports games. Coulda done with a few more of these and a few less flight simulators.
Nutsy Doodleheimer
Puzzle games. I know during it's run. The NES had Tetris and Dr. Mario while Columns was on the Genesis. But only a prototype of Klax was released as I am aware. And definetley agree with platformers. The only one being is Scrapyard Dog. A decent game but a little on the hard side.
NIKON
What the heck is an "RTS?" RTS = Real Time Strategy....think Dune2 , the Command & Conquer series..and the like. Edited January 19, 2016 by NIKON
+GoldenWheels
Scrolling shooters. Be they vertical or horizontal. I think there is only Xevious and Planet Smashers (Both vertical). Fighting (though this couldn't really be considered "missing" as it wasn't really the same genre then as it is now...or maybe even exist...still I do like Yie Ar Kung Fu....and NO, Fight Night does NOT count!) I'd agree RPG is the glaring hole here, but I'm not super interested in a true 7800 RPG frankly. An Action RPG? Maybe.
JungleJet
Something along the lines of Power Play Hockey for the C-64 would be awesome. or a platformer like Turrican Edited January 19, 2016 by JungleJet

+GoldenWheels
Plus Plutos and Sirius discovered later. Xevious and Plutos are my favorite Good point--even though we got them later as repros (is that even the right word since they were never "produced" in the first place? ) , those titles were supposed to be out then. nosweargamer
Let's see: A good Breakout/Arkanoid style game (sorry Jinx) A good football game (sorry RSF) A ninja platformer in the same vein of Ninja Gaiden or Shinobi A strategy game of some sort Another Mario like platformer (we got Scrapyard Dog) Another Zelda like adventure game, maybe even a follow up to 2600 Adventure (we got Midnight Mutants and to a degree Dark Chambers) It would've also have been nice to have: More original games, such as what we saw at the end of the systems life Some games based on licensed products of the day (TV shows, Movies, Toys). We almost got Missing in Action. A better beat em up than Double Dragon And finally how about the following sequels: Ballblazer II Food Fight 2:Charlie Chuck Chucks Back Dig Dugger Ninja Hockey: A Ninja Golf Prequel
DesertJets
It always baffled me how Atari Corp didn't really try to capitalize on the earlier 2600 developers that survived the crash -- specifically Activision. A Pitfall! for the 7800 would have been awesome, though ideally not a port of the awful Super Pitfall. I suppose this could have been possible given the right investment, but we all know that the powers that be were doing most everything on the cheap.
Dauber
I can't help but think of how much more interesting the Mystique library could have been on the 7800.
+save2600
The 7800 is sorely lacking a pinball game! Even something simple, such as the tables from Pinball Magic would have been nice to have:
8th lutz
Let's see: A good Breakout/Arkanoid style game (sorry Jinx) We already have a homebrew breakout/Arkanoid style game called Crazy Brix that is in the Atariage store. Crazy Brix is a great Breakout/Arkanoid style game. Edited January 19, 2016 by 8th lutz
8th lutz
Another Mario like platformer (we got Scrapyard Dog) We do have a Mario like Platformer besides Scrapyard Dog. Bentley Bear: Crystal Quest. The game is completed, but it isn't on cartridge yet. Edited January 19, 2016 by 8th lutz

You have an aversion to the word have or something? Crazy Brix is seriously good Arkanoid/Breakout type fun and I wonder when Bentley Bear's Crystal Quest will be released? Maybe they're waiting to release it concurrently with Defender or something else? Probably makes more sense to roll out a few games at a time I guess.

8th lutz
You have an aversion to the word have or something? I actually thought I typed have originally. I actually didn't see that word missing from my 2 posts. Once in a while, I didn't type something that I thought I typed such as a period. Inky
Food Fight 2:Charlie Chuck Chucks Back Funny you mention this. Dauber and I were talking about how much fun a two player at the same time Food Fight could be.
BladeJunker
I can't help but think of how much more interesting the Mystique library could have been on the 7800.Why, they were SO erotic already on 2600, pointy stair boobs, lactating witches, and historical figures always get my motor running. ^_^ I kid but I did tool around with a Philly Flasher redux that was a few more visual steps into the erotic IE. 0 to 4-5. Actually there was mention of Fight Night, the 7800 could use a decent boxing game. I like humor in my boxing games but Fight Night is just not very good. +GoldenWheels
I agree that Crazy Brix is very good. Worth the pick up for sure. But so far as filling holes in the library, how about paddle games that aren't brick games? To me, paddles controller are very uniquely Atari (even though I know they really weren't). How about a graphically better version of TAC-SCAN? Then you're filling two holes (ahem). Paddle games AND shooters. (BTW I'm still going to mock up a Mad Planets/Tron style controller--I just have to wait for Atari2600.com to ship...something. Anything.)

Not sure how true it is, but I had always heard that the 7800 had it's validation lockout mechanism to prevent unauthorized games - at least partly - because Atari didn't want Custer's Revenge with Atari 7800 level graphics. Well that is part of any cartridge system, porno or not they just want control. Kind of a dumb concern on Custer's Revenge or similar titles becoming an epidemic because adult titles in video games have been historically infrequent and of such extraordinarily bad quality nobody in their right mind buys them, nor was it even easy to buy when they were brand new. I will say the adult Atari games are at least playable and of decent quality which can't be said about most adult video game titles. I looked into "adult games" on every platform and believe me it can get a heck of lot worse than what was on Atari 2600. And I'm not talking content, I'm talking about gameplay that barely functions, glitches, and graphics so ugly they must have been losing their eyesight as they drew them. Idk seems like developers really suck when it comes to sex games, worst garbage designs ever, I mean Sneak King is better by comparison. ^_^ I digress but if anyone wants to make an adult 7800 game I'll design it and make the graphics for it if you can program it, sure will be better than what exists now. HawkMines
Really all you need to do is throw a rock at a genre and see where it lands. As long as it's not Arcade, the 7800 is missing it.
