TI-99 - DOCs, Manuals, eBooks, Lost & Found

I'll start scanning some 3rd party manuals.

DataBiotics game manuals are like Atarisoft manuals (actually they're nothing like Atarisoft manuals except they are both single sheets of paper), I'll do those first.

But when I start on multi-page manuals (Parker Bros etc) I'll be posting ready-for-print/re-assembly scans. Note that this will make reading the pdf nearly impossible on-screen (or at least a pain in the tush)

The resulting pdf will contain (12 page example)...

8.5 x 11 landscape @ 300dpi:

Sheet 1: page 12 / page 1 backed by page 2 / page 11

Sheet 2: page 10 / page 3 backed by page 4 / page 9
Sheet 3: page 8 / page 5 backed by page 6 / page 7

Bear with me though, I have a painfully slow old flatbed scanner, so I might only do a couple a day.

here are the first couple single sheets anyway (note I didn't do any post-scan cleaning so they are presented in all their faded/bent/folded/mutilated glory)

Sorry... but for what is this place good for?

Strips, Reference Cards, Manuals, Labels and more! (HQ)

And why not collecting all that material at really one place, such the WHtech FTP-Server is? :?

I'll take a crack at answering why all this stuff may not be at WHTECH.

Atari Age is setup in such a way that all users, if they want to, can easily submit a message, scan, program, new PDF or even a keyboard strip. The thread you linked to above was created as an easy way for all to share and benefit and know where to go to drop of an item or two.

While WHTECH is a great site, and everyone can download, it appears very few people are authorized to upload. I only speak for myself here, but I would not feel comfortable continually bugging someone by asking, "Hey, will you upload this for me?" Also, WHTECH is so large, I might not stick it in the correct place, I say this only because I sometimes have difficulty finding things there, which may be why they feel the need for a gatekeepers.

Why bother having multiple TI-community sites/forums/repositories if everything is going to be posted in one place?

I just find atariage hosts a much more interactiveTI community than most web options, so I prefer to post things here for people I « know » (virtually speaking). Anyone can feel free to grab stuff from this thread and post them anywhere they'd like, so if you think these collections are better suited to WHtech, go ahead, post them there too.

One thing to keep in mind...someone new to the 21st century TI-community is going to use Google to find info. That search will most likely lead people here first. It wasn't until I found the atariage forums that I deiscovered that WHtech FTP even existed. So really, where better to post things than the first place people will find????

hmm, yes, really good question. I thought this is for this keyboard-overlays and Ref-Cards only, not for manuals.

Why restrict posts to certain classes of printables?? After all folks could argue that keyboard overlays and reference cards should be posted elsewhere using the same argument.

When I go searching for manuals and other TI paraphernalia I find links to several sites... 99er.net TI-99/4A Videogame House and others. Among them, atariage always turns up. So if the point of the exercise is to make these documents available to the community as a whole - old farts and newbies alike - these forums are an ideal choice.

Personally, I was just happy to find the subject line, because I've wanted somewhere to post scans of a few of the harder to find docs, and was glad the thread was started.

PeBo very nice the scans, just because I can use them for sharing on my website too if you want, could you scan them at 600dpi please ? :P ...if not, no problems I just will have to scans them again from mine a day

When I get past the DBT manuals (I only have a few left in my collection :() I will be scanning at 600 DPI.

Databiotics manuals' original print quality was very « in-house » when they were created (probably nowhere close to 600 DPI) , so I saw no output advantage scanning these in higher resolutions. It would be like re-encoding a vhs tape at 720p (Garbage in-Garbage out, as they say).

And yes, please post these on ti99iuc.it (or anywhere else you like). The point of posting them here is to get them « out there », since these particular cartridges are now often sold without manuals.

These are the last of my DBT manuals (until some kind soul wants to sell / donate to me all my missing DBT games)

Please note that the BOXER manual is not an original, although it IS what came with the cart I bought.

The front/back cover is likely a scan of the original, the inside was obviously created using a modern proportional font, unlike the fixed width daisy-wheel print-out of all other DBT manuals.

I included it anyway figuring that it's better than nothing until someone posts an original replacement.

I'll start working on the multi-page manuals next week (as requested at 600 dpi).

2 questions...

First, schmitzi, would you be offended if I posted an alternative Munchman II manual?? Mine has an orange card-stock cover (it uses a scan of the artwork from the newer 4A Munchman manual) and a very cool sans-serif font. I don't know if it's original, but it IS first-generation print quality and not a scan (except the front cover art).

Second, should I scan the Atarisoft instruction sheets, or does everyone already have authentic ones? (They seem to be pretty common)

This last scan is a curiosity more than anything. It is the front cover only for the never released Submarine Commander from Thorn EMI.

I created it for use with K.C.'s excellent manual (which needed no improvement) using the manual covers from other systems as the template. Unfortunately I can't find the original PS file, so I had to scan it instead.

I figure the manual itself is easy to find, but I think folks will like this cover (especially if output to a semi-lustre photo paper - Schweet!)

Hi Ho Pebo,

very nice scans, thanks! Adorable. From the second parts I own the Boxer-Cartridge only (searching for the others, of course :) ),

but I will make fine printouts from all to "refresh" my collection :) I like having, watching and reading them froom time to time.

I also have special papers, some harder, for printing these manuals.

And for your question, as I collect it all, and others do: Yes, scan scan scan, post post post :) really ALL is welcome, of course.

thanks

xXx

Damn PeBo! That is one FANTASTIC cover! :-o Great job on that. Now I'm going to have to re-print my manual so the pages come out to fit properly.

On a another topic... when I went for my manuals, I found my missing CF card reader that I recently replaced. :skull:
