OT: Windows XP Driver

Anyone know where to find a driver that will allow Windows XP to write to and external DVD drive? Currently, it will read but the component to write is missing.

Hi,

 

If I remember correct that was no "driver" in XP, but integrated. Insert an empty CD- or DVD-ROM,

and then drag and drop your files there via the explorer, or rightklick your file, say "Send to" and point to your burner.

(You will see a dialog popping uo in systray later, to finish burning)

 

In addition, there were/are many free programs for much more comfortable burning, like CDburnXP, just google them.

If you need a "special" program pls send PM.

google "cd/dvd burning software xp" no driver needed just the right software

 

nero is probably the best, but it's also commercial..

I just tried CDBURNERXP and it won't recognize a new DVD as writable media. XP will read DVDs but not write to them.

I just looked at the developer's site for CDBURNERXP. It lists a set of compatible drives--and also says it will do CD/DVD/Blu Ray disks. . .

....and some CD/DVD-Burners may need a firmware-update, to recognize newly produced media (empty CDs/DVDs)

 

...and some older XP-installations often need a "clean-up" (manually is recommended, and not with any "super"-speedup-tools)
