ColecoNoob
This is going to be a longer post so sorry for that in advance. Not so long time ago I got the idea of building a cocktail arcade into my IKEA RAMVIK couch table. So what I did was formating an old unused laptop to WIN XP and installed MAME 0.170 on it with some roms and artwork for the classics (Donkey Kong, Galaga, BurgerTime and games like that). I worked with MAME a bit to get everything working as it should and thought about a better way of presentation and found out about Maximus Arcade. I downloaded Version 2.10 and bought a licence. Then I tried to setup the "intuitive" software and it all ended up in a mess. Nothing works as it should. While gaming works perfectly in MAME, MA does nothing but creating error message. I set up the folders for the MAME ROMs and artwork, I chose MAME as the only emulated System and got nothing out of the software. Maximus Arcade is loading no ROMs and tells me that path is wrong. There are no games listed even though it created a games.XML There is absolutely no support that would be helpfull and all "solutions" that are rarely found were useless so far. Is anyone here using Maximus Arcade with MAME successfull? May anyone be able to provide a step by step instruction how to setup this confusing piece of software? I have absolutely no clue what I am doing wrong. Help me Obi Wan Kenobi. You're my only hope... Keatah
I know nothing about Maximus Arcade. But, my philosophy is that emulators are complex enough and if some front-end isn't working right, find another choice. I'll assume you've looked at http://www.maximus-arcade.com/pages/maximus-arcade-setup-documentation As "crude" as it sounds, one of my rigs just uses a cleared and blacked-out XP desktop as the front end. ClassicGMR
If you're interested in trying out a different front end I cannot recommend GameEx enough(personal opinion). I use it on 3 systems I own. Works great with minimum tweaking. Only downside to it is it does have a nag screen when it boots unless you buy a license. It's a timed screen though. I had a mini PC running exclusively with an XBox 360 controller and GameEx. I have my arcade running Windows 7 and have GameEx in the START menu. When you shut down GameEx you can have it shut the PC down. Unless you watch it boot you don't see Windows at all. (I did this with XP as well with no trouble.) ColecoNoob
Seems to be worth looking. Thank you. As I have already paid for MA I will firstly give it another try step by step.

ColecoNoob
I'll assume you've looked at http://www.maximus-arcade.com/pages/maximus-arcade-setup-documentation OK, that was another "read the f****** manual issue. Thanks for providing the link again. Reading through the instructions again I figured I missed modifiing the gamelist.xml. Fixed...works...great
TPA5
Glad to hear it's working for you! Even though the interface is starting to look a little dated at this point and it isn't as "new" as it could be, Maximus Arcade is still a great front-end in my opinion. I've used it as my go-to for several years now, and every time I'm tempted to try a different one I always end up back with it. I'd love to see some pictures of your build! ColecoNoob
My build is actually only my ideas on a paper as other important things have to be done first. What I have by now is a cracked open and slaughtered old laptop running in Win XP and an ordered double arcade stick. If MA runs as it should I will have the upper plate of my RAMVIK cut out to fit a propper 5:4 VGA monitor and have the laptop and stick installed. I still try to find out how to implementiert some old speakers from a broken JVC boom-box with their own sound level adjustment. As this sadly is all a weekend-work-project it will not be done in the next days... Edited February 16, 2016 by ColecoNoob

Keatah
How would you play Assault or Tempest? What mods or changes would you make to your cab?
ColecoNoob
How would you play Assault or Tempest? What mods or changes would you make to your cab?As I haven't installed a spinner (yet) I Play TEMPEST via trackball or the rotary upgrade of the U360. Not exactely the same experience like with a real spinner I guess but playable.I don't know about ASSAULT. Installing additional spinners would be quite hard too as space is limited on my cp. I'm sorry I don't understand your second question. Edited September 19, 2016 by ColecoNoob
