WIP: Unnamed Beat 'em up

Changes;

- Added a small screenshake effect when player falls over.

- Added a 'Rage' bar. When it's half full you can press C to PowaPunch. When completely full, press 3 to PowaKick.

- Added some quick sounds.

- Reduced scoring.

- I might have tweaked AI etc, I can't remember :(

To get rage, kill bad guys.

PowaPunch will clear any bad guys in front of you (within range).

PowaKick will clear any bad guys either side of you (within range).

Please note: This build will probably run better on a real Jag, it has lots of slowdown for me in VJ.

I think this varies for everyone though, depending on your system - so just a heads up really.

On my actual Jag, it is full speed.

I might compile a "faster in VJ" version. Will post when done as I know not everyone has the option to run stuff on their actual Jag.

Is there a film of the game-play somewhere?

Things like this should be shown to the masses,

I dont have the appropriate hardware for recording. If someone else could grab a decent video from a real Jag then please go ahead :)

Nice FINALLY got around to try it. Looks really nice but man I get my ass kicked a lot. :-) and I have a hard time getting up again once I'm down, In any case it's cool and as many already said a lacking genre on the Jag. Again thanks for sharing.

As promised, here's a VJ version;

I haven't tested it with the sound on (i'm at work) so it might play the incorrect sounds for all I know, or even static, lol.

The main thing is, it's a lot faster in VJ. But the sounds won't be consistent and some won't play. Therefore, if running on real hardware then please stick to the previous release.

Audio seems out of sync at times with this version, whereas the previous version has much more consistent audio. Also, I haven't noticed any performance issues in VJ with the previous build, and I'm not exactly running a top-end system.

Thanks for the info. Yes, the performance does vary from what i've seen.

I just added a switch in the code so I can build a VJ version (with slightly dodgy audio) at will. It makes it easier to dev at lunch when the game is running full speed for me. Also handy if anyone else has the slow issues, then at least they can try it out ;-)

Captured some gameplay footage tonight. No comments about my gameplay. :P

Excellent, thank you for doing that.

You got better with each go ;)

I noticed some slowdown happening at busy moments, I'm thinking I added 1 too many bad guys which is causing it to lag occasionally. I'll sort that out.

Thanks again

Thanks for video. It looks very unforgiving, I like that.

(I would find it fun if it was only one almost impossible level with an end boss almost no-one would ever see, and he could be a lonely blue guy or something ;) )

Are you aiming for a 2 player game? Hope so.

What ever you make of it, I promised I would buy two CDs and I will.

Thanks for the comments. I haven't decided exactly which way it's going yet. Obviously I need to change the GFX etc. I might make the bad guys a bit smaller so I can put more onscreen, but we'll see.

My perfect ultimate goal would be to have a few levels, some dodgy back story and loads of bad guys to punch. Pretty much like any classic beat 'em up. As I said at the beginning, it's always been on my list as a game to make.

The current 'gameplay' is just to make testing/playing it more fun - keeping it as a mini game for now to make it more interesting for people to try. This should gradually evolve into the final game over time though.

2 Player would be a great addition, but don't hold me to it ;)
