TheMajorHavoc
Hey all, I think I have enough to release demo of the Xybots remake (demake?) I am creating because I had to use drawscreen at certain times, this runs at 30fps. controls are: Hold firebutton & left-right to rotate firebutton & down to fire. walk up to progress through the level. enemy is just a missile object placeholder 'till I work in the enemy sprites ROM is attached. I hope it appeals to someone out there! Xybots_2600_preliminary_031916.bin Edited March 20, 2016 by TheMajorHavoc
TheMajorHavoc
Updated demo! Warrior xybots added. They spawn and respawn from the same location in this demo. Enemies have blinking map locations No sound yet. Still alot of work to do! Xybots_preliminary_040416.bin
Jinroh
Oh sweet, how did I miss this? I'll give it a go after I get home, I love me some Xybots.
TrekMD
Cool. I had not seen this either!
Jinroh
IDK if it's my Stella Version, but the maze is very flickery. The top map looks great, and the enemy movement stuff looks good, just the flickery maze makes me a bit queasy. Though if it doesn't look like that on your it may be my Stella version, but I thought I had the latest. ^^
TheMajorHavoc
Thanks for the feedback! Yes, The flickering wasn't too bad until I had to use some screen draws to eliminate rolling introduced when I started bankswitching. I'm going to try a couple things to mask it some. It seems to be less distracting on my Harmony encore cart.

TheMajorHavoc
Tightened some code and seemed to have gotten a 75% (?) speed increase. rom is attachedXybots_preliminary_1_040516.bin EDIT: the screen rolls on a real vcs Edited April 5, 2016 by TheMajorHavoc
ZackAttack
That's better, but you still have a lot of flickering. Also, it looks like you have an inconsistent frame rate. You'll need to make all the frames have the same number of scanlines in order to avoid problems on real hardware.

Jinroh
This keeps looking better and better. The control scheme and synced map and 3d view are really well done! Really cool to play some Xybots action on the VCS.
TheMajorHavoc
Well........ I have been working on a new Batari Basic "engine" for 3d that is "flicker free" Here's some stella video with bad background noise from my office (you might have to copy and paste the youtube link) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vc2CNB2UjZU I'll post the demo if someone promises to try it out on their harmony cart

gauauu
Game works fine on my Jr. No issues with rolling or flicker. I do find it hard to tell which way I'm facing, and have trouble deciphering what I'm seeing in the "3d" display in a number of cases. Keep up the good work with it though.
