Anyone good at decals / nameplates?

Does anyone know if there is a place that makes original size, material, texture, font nameplates? It would most likely cost too much for a small run of 150 or so, but I'd like to know if anyone has made anything like this.

A new plate like shown would mean infringement against a trademark.

But it would be possible to create a transparent overlay for the original plate, only containing the "Incognito"-label (TBH I would find "800i" more appealing).

I know about the trademark, but I highly doubt that Atari's lawyers would even bother with such a small private project.

 

I considered the transparent overlay, but I don't think it will adhere properly to the textured label on the 800.

 

Yours look nice on an XL, but I'm looking for something that matches the 800.

Something like this? Still working on the colour, and trying to work out a way of getting the water-slide decals to lie flat without getting air trapped behind, which shows up as silvery spots once the decal dries.

 

There's also a visible difference on the decal's finish and the and plastic behind. It's a bit more flat / matte.

 

And they're fragile. First scratch with a fingernail, and it's damaged.

 

A printing shop small batch of stickers would probably be better.

 

Since only the word "Incognito" is being printed, so copyright is no issue - at least from Atari... I should probably run it by Master of Gizmo first.

That looks nice. Did you have any problem getting the decal to stick to the surface of the nameplate?

The decal paper I have has a pretty good glue on it. The surface ink is likely to be damaged before anything pulls the whole decal off. But that wouldn't take too much either. Either way the more I think about it, it's probably too fragile to consider as an option.

 

For anyone wanting to give it a try anyway:

A number of hobby shops on/offline sell the decal paper (both for inklet and laser) in letter size sheets. I just ran it through my Samsung laser. The text was printed from Open Office using the SF Atarian font at 22pt.

I was thinking if someone was a good icon artist we could get a sheet of small stickers for all the 8-Bit mods. So like the 'Intel Inside' sticker you could have U1MB Inside. If you didn't want to clutter the case with stickers you could put them on the underside.
