Tangentg
Hello, I'm a young student born after the 80s but I'm a fan of Atari. Recently, I've been making a little series of Windows fangames in the style of Atari and other retro games, and have been hoping to get some people to check them out. However, none of my friends even know about Atari. I hope they could perhaps get some of you interested? It should be noted though that the ideas for the games themselves aren't origin and are Atari adaptations of some existing games. I would classify mine as free fangames and the original games have been mentioned in-game. I'd like to hear some feedback about the games if you don't mind, thanks a lot. First game (Little Red Riding Hood's Zombie Hunt, Atari 2600): http://shogikappa.tumblr.com/post/139871562592/little-red-riding-hoods-zombie-hunt-atari-2600 Second (Buzzy Bees, Atari 5200): http://shogikappa.tumblr.com/post/141139389317/buzzy-bees-download-windows-exe Third (just released, Bug War, Atari 7800 and 2600): http://shogikappa.tumblr.com/post/142910578592/bug-war-atari-7800-with-bonus-atari-2600
Tangentg
Made a number of updates to the Atari 2600 version of Bug War. The download link has been updated too. Still no comments on the games? (You could comment on this thread, please)
Tangentg
This is another game that's sorta in this series. It was meant to (originally) be like an Atari 7800 port (as I wanted to do another take on imitating the 7800) of the arcade game Eyes, though in 2 of the modes the speed gets quite fast in the later levels and I'm not sure if the 7800 could handle such speed. Please, let me know what you think of these games on this thread. Not many people know or heard of it. http://www.arcade-museum.com/game_detail.php?game_id=7742
high voltage
Wow, great games indeed, I like Eyes, never even heard of it before. Riding Hood is great too
Tangentg
I agree that the Eyes arcade game is a good one. It's one of the first arcade games I've played too! And thanks for the comments so far. With Little Red, I placed a bit more emphasis on realistic flickering than in Bug War, but I think the overall experience with Bug War may seem more 2600-ish with its accurate sound effects, though it doesn't have a demo screen that plays when you lose/before the game starts like in Little Red, nor does Bug War have that fake color-changing palette thing in Little Red (you turn that on by having the TV type switch at B-W). While Little Red has the Atari screen-flash, Bug War has the text flash. One of my emphases on these games are the difficulty settings (less so eyes), cause it's the pretty much the first time I've put them in any game that I've made (unless you count my original non-2600 Little Red, which has 2 modes). I hope to hear what parts people like and dislike about my games too, if there are specific aspects/parts. The Eyeball Mural
I'll try these out as soon as I have a PC again (mine died and I'm limited to a borrowed Chromebook right now). They look interesting and fun. Going off topic, your TCC has been quite an enjoyable challenge to dive into.

In simpler terms, the TCC is a simulataneous old language reconstruction and the representation of the pronunciation of words in several modern languages, but yeah, this is gonna get off topic. Thanks again though, for checking it out.
Tangentg
Seems like I never announced it here, but I added a trakball mode in the 2600 version at one point that allows you to use the mouse to move your ship around. Just gotta change the controller first from the default joystick in the controller ports screen.
high voltage
Will the be on cart? I would buy Little Red Riding Hood (and Eyes). Edited May 27, 2017 by high voltage
Tangentg
I don't know how to program for the Atari 2600 yet. Been trying to learn, but I had problems getting Batari BASIC and haven't gotten back to it. i'd greatly appreciate if these games got a detailed review. If anyone decides they'd like to make a homebrew/hack version of my Atari fangames for the actual Atari systems, it's fine (just let me know). Then you could get to play them on a cart. The Eyeball Mural
I eventually got to play your version of Eyes and it is great! I played it quite a lot for a couple of months in 2017, but forgot to comment here. Better late than never I hope!
+x=usr(1536)
Folks, it's recommended to exercise caution with the files presented for download in this thread. There are a couple of things about them that stand out and give pause for thought. All results were obtained from submitting the individual executable files to Virustotal. Bug_War_2600_tb.exe: 1 security vendor and no sandboxes flagged this file as malicious. Automated detection determined it to be malicious, so the possibility of a false positive exists. However, it does make two outbound network connections: one to the Azure cloud over HTTPS (encrypted) and one to an unknown IPV6 host. The IPV6 traffic appears to be a DNS request, so this may be a way of tracking where the software is installed. Using these tools, there is no good way of determining what's happening inside the HTTPS connection. Bug_War_7800.exe: 1 security vendor and no sandboxes flagged this file as malicious. Automated detection determined it to be malicious, so the possibility of a false positive exists. However, it makes an outbound network connection to the Azure cloud on port 443 (encrypted). Using these tools, there is no good way of determining what's happening inside the network connection. Buzzy_Bees_5200.exe: 1 security vendor and no sandboxes flagged this file as malicious. Automated detection determined it to be malicious, so the possibility of a false positive exists. However, it makes an outbound network connection to the Azure cloud on port 443 (encrypted). Using these tools, there is no good way of determining what's happening inside the network connection. Eyes.exe: 1 security vendor and no sandboxes flagged this file as malicious. Automated detection determined it to be malicious, so the possibility of a false positive exists. Little_Red_2600_v3_2.exe: No security vendors and no sandboxes flagged this file as malicious. Note that this does not necessarily mean that the file is safe, just that nothing malicious was detected. No assessment is made as to whether or not these files are safe to run. Every person considering running them on their system will need to determine for themselves if they are willing to shoulder the risk that they may be malicious. If the original author of these games (@Tangentg) could clarify the points raised here, that would be appreciated. Given that their last login was nearly a year ago on Feb. 19, 2022, though, that may not be happening anytime soon.
4ever2600
Oh those are just features, not bugs. Ya know perks... the ole 'hey old people, my friends are way to young to know atari, fire these up on your computers and let me know what you think'. Lol. Hope I'm wrong.
