phoenixdownita
As I stated in other thread these 3 games are eerily similar and obviously related. The question is which one came in first and was the deal explicit? According to the date in their opening screens" MSX Cabbage Patch Kids seems first in 1983 and it seems the most feature rich (main character edit + colorful backgrounds) MSX Athletic Land & Coleco Cabbage Patch Kids both in 1984, main character sprite difference from each other (no edit, bare backgrounds). Anyone knows how it went down? My guess is Konami produced MSX Athletic Land and Coleco licensed it with a sprite hack to get Coleco Cabbage Patch Kids, wrt MSX Cabbage Patch Kids I wonder if it was relicensed later for the MSX market as an improved version or more likely a ROM hack!! I know the dates don't line up but taking away bits and pieces from the original just make it even less believable and kind of makes MSX Athletic Land redundant (a strip down version of the already existent MSX Cabbage Patch Kids, why?). Special Teams
Don't know if this helps at all, but the Coleco CPK cart says it's based on a game licensed from Konami:
phoenixdownita
Don't know if this helps at all, but the Coleco CPK cart says it's based on a game licensed from Konami: cpk.PNG Thanks a bunch. If the game is based on a Konami game it must be Athletic Land, so the order I inferred of MSX Athletic Land -> Coleco CPK was correct. So likely MSX CPK was an improved Athletic Land with the Coleco blessing and the Cabbage Patch Kids gfx done either at the same time or just after the deal with Coleco to port it to their CV. EDIT: I found the source of my confusion. CPK for coleco has an OAA copyright of 1983 together with the Konami copyright of 1984 in the opening screen OAA=Original Appalachian Artworks which was the company dreaming up the original dolls even before they were called CPK and let it be sold by Coleco The MSX version has the OAA copyright notice (under the name, makes sense) on the select screen and that threw me for a spin. The Konami game was always Athletic Land and the reissue as a "CPK enhanced" for MSX was likely a way to cash-in the doll frenzy outside the CV crowd, for sure part of the negotiated deal among the 2 companies. I doubt Coleco was feeling menaced by the MSX platform, or maybe simply Konami good negotiating skills.
opcode
MSX Cabbage was released after Athletic Land in Japan. I ported the MSX version years ago, should have it somewhere here.

Interesting how the MSX version has a character editor and birds instead of bees, and cabbages(?) instead of rocks.
