Sega Mega Drive Classics Hub (steam)

Sounds like a pretty good idea:

'The new-look system is based on a bedroom of an early nineties SEGA fan with dynamic time-of-day conditions, retro SEGA paraphernalia, a shelf full of MEGA Drive games (including the ones you own) and of course a CRT TV! That’s not all, every single MEGA Drive game will now feature Steam Workshop support allowing you share modified versions of your favourite retro SEGA titles!'

Great to see Landstalker in the games list.

Yes and a personal favorite of mine Gunstar Heroes.

I wish Activision would lend Atari some rights to put in some of their games into the Atari vault. Would be great to see those in there alongside Adventure and Asteroids.

Oh good. The old versions were pretty terrible, no controller support and an archaic UI. I'm happy they haven't tried to get us to buy them all over again.

If you don't already have them, this sounds like a good deal. Also, they frequently go on sale in Steam and have been featured in the Humble Bundle more than once.

Better hold off for a while before getting it, cause there's a lot of serious issues with it. Mainly the Xbox 1 controller keeps drifting to the left and it's impossible to select any game besides Alex Kidd. :woozy:

If this ain't fix then I'll just extract the roms and use a different frontend/emulator with it...

Ok, they did patch the game and there is a way to fix the isue of X1 controlers...using an older patch. (Should have known it was a Windows 10 driver issue...)

Plus you really need a good 3D video card to use the Hub and even reduce the rez a bit, other wise you have to use the Simple Interface which is a POTA to use.

The games themselves are great and I love the CRT effects with scanlines. Will have to try out the mods...

The old launcher, the one they call Simple, doesn't support controllers, right? I didn't put much time into trying it because it was so bad.

Yeah controllers work on simple mode. The whole problem with this package and the Atari one recently released is mainly because of Unity. The shit people use to make iphone and tablet apps which Microsoft recently bought out. This package in particular runs 100% off your CPU. Your graphics card is totally ignored.

A few notes:

If controllers don't work it may be because you have multiple controllers connected to your PC. Disconnect them or worst case disable the other ones in device manager under Human Interface Devices......each of the controllers are called "HID compliant system controller". Disable all except the one you want to use. Open up your game controllers window so you can tell whats getting disabled.

Turn off V-sync.

Don't install any mods or keep them to a minimum.

Run in fullscreen mode (not in that TV)

In room settings:

Lower the graphics

Lower screen projection and turn off HQ2x and scanlines.

For me things work OK but its a little choppy so I disabled vsync and left everything as is. Seems to help. My Xbox 360 controller flakes out when I go into controller settings but otherwise works fine everywhere else.

Tried a few mods like Sonic 3 complete. Overall.....if this works...its pretty damn cool. They just need to work on it more to make it playable for most people.

I don't see the need to piss on Unity, it's not a bad thing to be able to build games for many different platforms in an easy-to-use framework. Blaming poor optimization on the developer tools is like blaming bad driving on car manufacturers.

I set the game to always use my Nvidia processor instead of the built-in and now it's running well, thanks for the suggestions.

Also tested HUB with the 360 controller and it works well also

Wonder why Outrun 2019 appeared on a Sega licensed plug and play, but always is passed up for compilations.

Guessing the issue was this, "SIMS became independent of the Sega group on June 25, 2004, when Representative Director Noboru Machida took over all stock from the veteran game maker"
