Atari8bitCarts
I realize that the seller states it's a "homebrew" but it's not, it's a copy. And look at how many... And I'm seeing this more and more. I specialize in Atari 8-bit carts but see it bleeding over. Individuals are printing boxes, instructions, and cart labels with the intent to make them look as close or identical as possible. Yes some are easily identified, but others are not. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Atari-2600-7800-Espial-w-box-manual-Home-brew-/201580657179? Then years from now they'll circulate as originals. But they are producing these copies. Just be honest about it.
tep392
His Princess Rescue is clearly a fake. Label has square cut corners. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Atari-2600-7800-Princess-Rescue-Home-Brew-Very-Rare-/201580673141?hash=item2eef24f875:g:pl4AAOSwfQRXMRx5
Special Teams
Seller has sold about 20 games in the last couple of months and has a 100% rating: http://www.ebay.com/sch/Video-Games/139973/m.html?item=201580673141&hash=item2eef24f875%3Ag%3Apl4AAOSwfQRXMRx5&LH_Complete=1&LH_Sold=1&_ssn=atari4you

+Gemintronic
I like how he makes it look like the whole collection is for sale.. then mentions it's just for one game. That gives me a LOT of confidence.
Keatah
I think copies and counterfeits and reproductions are alright *IF* they are marked as such and sold with an appropriate price. They fill a void and make things available that would not otherwise be. After all, it's just plastic and paper.

cjameslv
He trying to make it look like hes selling off a collection one by one instead that he is making these. He clearly states only 1 copy available yet has them in his sold list and another listed.
BassGuitari
I'm fine with repros as long as they're not being represented as originals. I have a few, myself. What I don't like is sellers who try to rip people off.I don't get the "I'm selling my collection" thing, either. Why the subterfuge? Nobody would care if he just said he was making these fakes. And why call them homebrews when they are not? I guess the word "homebrew" is more valuable than "repro." Atari8bitCarts
Hard core collectors disagree. I don't want knock off crap out there, someone's pet project to recreate someone else's work. They start with labels then move to boxes and instructions. That's to KNOCK it off. That isn't a homebrew! A homebrew would be a new title/game that someone created, a move from a media like disk to cartridge since it was unavailable, taking a game and enhancing it. Then label as such, not the auction. NOT with the same label as a commercial game. Making it look identical. That's what I have a problem with. And collectors should. It screws up people and dilutes the market. Then you have dipshits like VGA get involved and falsely start certifying games.

They start with labels then move to boxes and instructions. That's to KNOCK it off. I guess that depends on how hardcore you are. I consider myself a relatively "hardcore" collector but I acknowledge that there are limits to how hardcore I can be. For games/items past those limits, I'm perfectly happy with repros. I just think they should have some mark or something to distinguish them from originals. It screws up people and dilutes the market. Then you have dipshits like VGA get involved and falsely start certifying games. I don't think there's anything to support the notion that repros devalue originals, but I agree wholeheartedly that VGA are bullshit artists. +KaeruYojimbo
It would be interesting to see what some of the best offers he's accepted are (I thought about offering $10 for the Princess Rescue repro, just to see what happened). In the case of this guy, it's pretty obvious to all of us that these are repros, since they're clearly in the wrong shells (Espial, River Patrol, Mangia, X-Man), but less knowledgeable buyers might be fooled. I don't follow what's going on with ebay closely, but it seems like there have been issues with selling reproductions in the past. Calling something a "homebrew" is one way to work around that. As long as a reproduction is clearly labeled as such, I don't have a problem with it and I don't think it devalues the original.

The important thing is that every sentence ends with not one, but TWO exclamation points!! Nothing says trust like two exclamation points. Now if it were just a single one, I'd be a bit wary... unless he also included L@@K and RARE!!!!, then I'm golden. tep392
So I sent a short message to the guy about his Princess Rescue auction. I don't think I was particularly rude. Here's my message: It's clearly home made. Not built by Atariage. $160 for a fake? Here is his response: New message from: atari4you (81Blue Star) Hi, was Atari Age 's not also a fake that is why they are no longer selling it!! This is a hnice home brew cart. just like theres was!! You must work for atari age!! If you do not stop harrassing me i will never buy from you guys again & as you can see bye my last picture i have spent thousands of dollars at your store!! I have hundreds of Atari agae games as shown in picture!! ANd some of the games i have bought from them are pirated like Zippy (sonic the Hedge Hog) Right!!!! Why do you guys think you are the only people that can sell home brews, hacks, reproduction, etc. you are not atari gods!! They went out of buissnesss in the middle 90's!! Get a life!! Jinroh
some of the games i have bought from them are pirated like Zippy (sonic the Hedge Hog) Right!!!! Hopefully he's not perpetuating to people that Spry's hard work was "piracy". Which is ironic since he's selling bootlegs of Atari games. That response is all over the place though, I'd be suspect even more to the quality of the "homebrews" he's selling. BassGuitari
Hopefully he's not perpetuating to people that Spry's hard work was "piracy". The gloves would be on the floor. But I'm guessing in his mind, calling homebrews pirates somehow exonerates him from making *actual* pirate carts. Or he's just a dope. Could be anything. neotokeo2001
He is selling the Godzilla home brew without permission. He is also selling Lilys Woods which is a hack that I did of Pitfall with Nukeys help. Not much I can do about selling the hack, but he is using all my original artwork to make boxes and manual as well as the label.
BladeOfOsiris
Hate this guy already. His grammar makes me think he is not that educated with this sort of stuff. It's like he found a "make atari homebrews" video on YouTube, and was like, "Yeah, I can make money by selling other peoples work!" If he is really selling this stuff w/o permission from the owner, we need to end this guy's account: "To report a policy violation from a listing: Go to the listing for the item you want to report. Click Report item on the right side of the listing page. From the drop-down menus, choose the reason for your report. Make sure the listing is really violating an eBay policy by reviewing the relevant policy. ... Click Continue." Ted I would have said "reproduction" rather than "fake." Calling it a fake (even though it is) put him on the defensive right away and gave him ammo for his fake/pirate argument. Either way, looks like he took the Princess Rescue down. Or someone actually bought it. I'm guessing that this guy's strategy is going to be to argue semantics with anyone who confronts him. And confuse them with misspellings and poor grammar. Edited May 10, 2016 by KaeruYojimbo
