Jackbtripper
I just got my Rasberrypi that I will use exclusively to play Stella. What is the best and easiest way to set it up? I really would like to just plug it in and have Stella open and and start playing. Any ideas?
Inky
Well, I know it doesn't help you, but I just installed the Retropie package on mine.
BigO
Is this of any use?: http://www.engadget.com/2012/09/28/how-to-set-up-your-raspberry-pi-to-play-atari-2600-games/
mr_me
If you're using it with a television in a living room you might prefer an interface like what comes with Retropi rather than Stella alone.
Jackbtripper
So I installed the Retropi software but I am having trouble mapping and setting up the Atari controller. How do I reset the mapping on the pi and start over from scratch?
mr_me
Delete the file "es_input.cfg".
Jackbtripper
Mr_me I deleted the file and it set me up perfect to remap. My problem now is that it is not mapping the Atari controller. For some reason it picks up the button and picks up down but not up or right or left. Any ideas?
Jackbtripper
Do I need to map it in the game or in the menu of Retropie?
mr_me
Controller settings for EmulationStation and Stella are independent of eachother. So setting up the game controller for EmulationStation is optional.
Jackbtripper
Once I get to the configuring game pad 1 screen for some reason on my Atari controllers it is not reading up or left. Any ideas? I'm so close.
Inky
When you say "atari controller" You mean a CX40 joystick, right? If so, how do you have it hooked up to the Pi?
Jackbtripper
I have an Atari to usb connecter.
Jackbtripper
I think I'm getting close. 'm having trouble getting Stella to map to my joysticks just right using emulation station. I think what I need to do is set up my mapping in Stella directly separate from emulation station. Once I drop out of emulation station, what command prompt do I need to open Stella? mr_me
Looks like Retropie comes with two 2600 emulators and the default is Retroarch rather than Stella. You should be able to switch the default to Stella when launching a game or editing this file. /opt/retropie/configs/atari2600/emulators.cfg Stella controller should be preconfigured; Retroarch controllers can be configured with the Emulation Staton controller setup. https://github.com/RetroPie/RetroPie-Setup/wiki/Atari-2600 Maybe double check your USB adaptor with a Windows game controller test utility. Outside Emulation Station you should be able to start Stella by changing to its directory and typing stella at the command line
