I thought it looked stunning... right up until they showed the weird looking bad guys that look like they might have come from an N64 but with more polygons. From what the Treehouse gameplay demoers (is that even a word?) were saying it is totally possible to go through the entire game without ever hunting if you don't want to kill any animals. You can just harvest and eat fruit, mushrooms, etc. to restore your health instead if you'd rather go the vegetarian route.

I could see that as a hidden trophy if this were a PSN/XBLA game, "Vegan Link Award: Complete main quest without slaying a single forrest animal." Meat has lots of protein in it and I would imagine Link can regenerate health a lot faster with one kill than forraging all day for vegetable matter. That said, I hope they don't take the Minecraft approach with survival. That would suck in a Zelda game...

Andromeda Stardust
That was amazing. Thanks for sharing. Definitely going to get this but I haven't decided yet on Wii-U or NX platform. Mario only eats magic mushrooms. Not to mention flowers that make him burp fire, or "stars" that make him flash bright psychadelic colors. A leaf that makes him sprout a tail and fly? Is it no surprise Mario takes all kinds of drugs? Zelda is no exception with his magic "potions" and stuff. Consume an item and it alters your status effect. Drugs everywhere...
Bill Loguidice
It's definitely an interesting turn for the Zelda series. It kind of mashes up/takes inspiration from the recent Tomb Raider/Assassin's Creed/Uncharted series games. Although Nintendo has said the NX and Wii U versions will have parity, hopefully we'll get SOME enhancements on the NX side. After all, they DO have to encourage the purchase of the new system. It kind of mashes up/takes inspiration from the recent Tomb Raider/Assassin's Creed/Uncharted series games. Honestly, I find that aspect of it a turn-off. I don't want generic action RPG #2,317, I want a bloody Zelda game! I'm not overly concerned right now though- I mean, it won't even be out till next year. I try not to get too hyped for most games... at least not right away.
Andromeda Stardust
Honestly, I find that aspect of it a turn-off. I don't want generic action RPG #2,317, I want a bloody Zelda game! I'm not overly concerned right now though- I mean, it won't even be out till next year. I try not to get too hyped for most games... at least not right away. Honestly the system isn't that far off compared to past entries. I always thought farming for hearts and rupees by cutting grass / busting pots felt like time wasting busy work. Plus nobody intentionally drops money on the ground for Link to find. Who does that? And yes, there's still apparently pot smashing in this game for nostalgia's sake! I also kinda like the idea of a stamina gauge that continuously replenishes itself, if nothing else then so speedrunners don't constantly somersault from point A to point B, or do some kind of assinine wall-scaling stunts to skip over areas in the game, since you know since Link actually can jump now! Scavenging or hunting for food and weapons, while not decreasing the time spent foraging, actually adds a layer of realism to the game. Collecting mushrooms for food takes no more or less time as slashing vegetation for hearts, but is more believable, although the thought of killing animals for food seems a bit Minecraftish. A bonus is that you can consume the items on the spot or store them with you for later use. Also the fact that weapons do wear out with usage is consistent with real life. Link has also used weapons stolen from defeated enemies in past Zelda games, for instance usage of a club to beat foes or sticks to light fire. It would also be cool if you could reuse arrows that missed their target by collecting them after battle, but whatever the case I'm sure the creators will see to it that adequate ammo can be collected. I can only hope that the Master sword doesn't wear out, get rusty, or break. It would suck to lose usage of it in battle, then run to the nearest village and pay a blacksmith to fix it. cybercylon
Any chance that the Wii U version might see a smaller print run than usual? Kind of want to see what's up with the NX....
copper20
Personally I think Nintendo went downhill when they released the N64 - though their first party titles were incredible, most of the 3rd party stuff was just awful. This is why I love the Sony PlayStation 1 miles more than the N64. Ocarina of Time may be one of my favorites but even that was not enough to save the 64. They're very lucky Sega didn't do so good with the Saturn and their first party titles released were masterpieces as mentioned earlier. Their first-party releases on the Gamecube were watered down compared to the N64 and some of them were even just more frustrating games (Mario Sunshine) than their beloved N64 games. I enjoyed the gamecube, but PlayStation 2 is miles better still. The best thing about the GC was the graphics. They didn't have games that looked like N64 games such as Ocarina of Time (Looking at you Grand Theft Auto 3) or Super Mario 64.
Atariboy
Any chance that the Wii U version might see a smaller print run than usual? It surely won't be huge by Nintendo standards. Zelda isn't the biggest seller in the world with the pair of Wii titles selling just 10 million units in total for an example, there will be just over 13 million Wii U systems out there by next March, and most of all an awful lot of diehard Nintendo fans that love this franchise will be NX early adapters and likely will be purchasing it there. I don't see them ignoring retail with the last-gen version since Zelda is just too big of a franchise to exclude even the Wii U in that manner, but I also don't see this being a huge seller. It will likely not go much past 1 million units sold at best. Maybe it won't even break a million. Even Twilight Princess managed just 1.3 million units sold on the much better selling GameCube back in 2006. Austin
I really hope the NX version is more impressive. I'm seeing things be invisible then fade in as you get close, whereas on more powerful platforms you won't see that sort of thing (or if it's there it won't be as obvious). So far Nintendo has said the two versions will pretty much be the same, but I am crossing my fingers they are polishing it up even more for the NX version. I see a lot of people gawking at the visuals of the Wii U version. I think it looks nice, but.. Xenoblade Chronicles X already happened, so I'm not as impressed as others. Andromeda Stardust
Interesting to note the graphical style is a bit between Windwaker and Twighlight Princess. Speaking of which, I need to pick up TP for Wii-U. What would be funny is if Nintendo mirrored the world map between the Wii-U and NX versions like they did with Twilight Princess on Wii and Game Cube.
