A Jeff Minter game collection with multiple games on it would be great. Bubble Bubble or Super Sprint are great additions to the Jag Library, as well.

But the overall best thing ever would be a menu controlled collection of all ST Ports at once on CD. Together with nice screenshots and maybe short info attached in the menu.

Similar CD's exist for Amiga CD32 to play 500 games. Would be great to get such a thing for Jag to play ST games. Maybe such a collection could also be used with an future release of an SD-Card adapter for the Jag to play it without the CD workaround.

Once you work out how to access >2mb of RAM/ROM with a CD, let me know ;)

Easy. You just buy an Alpine, obviously.

A more realistic version would be using a Skunkboard and a CD-based menu/flashing program. Didn't someone create one?

Yes Matthias once had something like that running on his own Flash cards a few years back at a Jagfest, pretty impressive. Don't know what it would take to make it work with the skunkboard but I guess back then he was concerned with his Flash cards stopping to work and with everyone crying out about the ability to load Roms from a cd. It's a shame since he did some amazing stuff over the years...

Two random thoughts:
- I've seen Jag multicarts on eBay (completely not legit) with some kind of dial type thing to select the ROM you want to play. I wonder if that'd be more economical, less resource intensive, and more timely in the long run?
- I find the chunky scrolling on the ST R-Type not particularly...fun. I'd personally go for conversions that run the best (and have multiplayer options if at all possible) - Gauntlet, Super Sprint, Bubble Bobble etc.

Honestly, I would love to see the game Realms! be converted to the Jaguar. I would play it constantly (holding back the profanity on here because I've been drinking).

Honestly, even if it was just converted over as-is... I still would play it constantly... but it would be AWESOME if someone re-did the music for the Jag like they did for Xenon 2.

Couldn't agree more!

Gauntlet II and Super Sprint would be my first 2 choices :)

Yes, that would be my votes aswell. But I do expect them to be juiced up.

Gauntlet II would need to be multiplayer at a very minimum.

Super Sprint with Championship Sprint levels added would be awesome.

I have ordered Xenon II cart, and I hope I don't get disappointed. I can play ST games whenever I want and if it's just a pure ST port I doubt I will buy any more of these...

Those carts just bank switch the top addressing lines so that each game then 'lives' in it's own address space. They still share the same eeprom save game space though.

No, the pics I've seen of it also sports 8 eeproms, besides 4 27C322 eproms...

While I hope you are not disappointed (There are no slowdowns, and the music is, imho, much better) I can't help but think of this...

Well, we'll see. I was on the fence on this, and chances are that I'll be neither happy nor disappointed... But no worries, got a friend that told me he'd get it from me (at cost) if I don't want to keep it, so it will end up in good hands no matter what.

Well I for one am glad to be spending the going rate on this enhanced release which as we all well know is more than justified given the work involved and that it's not a company out to make profit. However there's no way I would buy it if it didn't have all those newly written extra levels and mega drive AND snes compatibility; I mean that's just incredible.

You are a collector and would spend money on a turd wrapped up in a Jaguar case to get that complete collection. I don't care about that and don't chide you for that even though I find it slightly amusing, just like those audiophiles that can spend 5000$ on a power cable(!) from Furutech... (Furutech NanoFlux NCF 18E for those who want to google the madness)

I however, am not a collector. Why would I spend my money on something that I don't find worthwhile?

I did not intend my original comment to turn into a friggin flame war. All cudos to the ones making material available on the jaguar, but just like in real life, on a free market you cannot force ppl to buy your stuff if they don't think it is worthwhile. I have my standards as to what I feel is worthwhile, others have theirs, and while some of you have problems with it, I really don't care. If I don't think it is worth it, I won't buy. Simple as that. Live with it and get on with your life. Please.

Allow me to be pithy. I can understand if it's conversation that you want... but why are you wasting your time in the Jaguar forum if you find spending money on it to be not worthwhile?

I don't see why I should be the one defending myself when it comes to the way I spend my own hard earned money. :?

If you want my money you should be the one motivating me to give it to you, not me having to apologize and excuse myself because I won't buy this or that... :?

I guess it all boils down to what kind of feedback the developers want. It's never fun to hear that what you are doing isn't wanted, otoh, with the collectors here and the small runs of carts they do, they never really risk anything even if what they do is crap. But if that is what they want, why even ask what ppl want... and get upset when they get an honest answer. :?

Far from everyone here are collectors, quite a few are actually "consumers" that don't buy just about anything with a jaguar logo.

Considering this thread is about games which (mostly) all have downloadable versions, and in fact almost everything I've ever released for the Jaguar has also had a free downloadable version, I don't see why you decided to act so outraged in the first place.

It's not like we're holding the binaries to ransom. If you don't want to buy them (them? It's only Xenon, and I am not allowed to release a free downloadable version, which is why it's not there), then don't.

Please don't crap up this thread (which, incidentally, was not started by anyone with anything to do with the ports)

IK+

By far.

The only reason I still had my A500 until recently. This one amazing game.

Shame the PS1 port was turd :(

By far the one game (apart from Gauntlet II :-D ) that i would love to play and have a CIB release of is GODS from the Bitmap Brothers! However, not the ST port, but rather the Amiga version. This game is one of the two reasons i bought an Amiga 500 (with the other being able to play all the SSI AD&D Gold Box RPG's that never saw an ST release). The only two major differences that i vividly recall is the "hmpf" sound the character makes when he jumps and the weapon throw 'swooshing' sound fx whenever weapons are thrown. Little differences to some yet this made a big atmospheric difference for me whenever i played it.

Maybe you're coming off in a way that you're not intending.

Are you upset that the homebrew games are already sold out? IE: are you mad at the collectors in general?

I'm super-excited to get them in the mail... I'm both a collector, and a player (consumer).

There are a few games that were sold on CD that... I'm just going to say, weren't my style... so I didn't buy them. But this game is great. I like the game, and really looking forward to the new music with it!!!

But since this thread is temporarily hijacked, I will add in... that I would kill for a re-release of this game:

I might be old-fashioned but I buy what I intend to use, and when I don't use it I store it until I use it again.

Never got into Gods as I did with Chaos engine on my old Amiga (mostly depending on that I din't own Gods) but would love to give it a fair chance on the Jag with no slow down!!!!!!

Interesting to see Gauntlet, R-Type and Super Sprint in the top three spots!

Interesting indeed. I'd put IK+, Star Wars, and Bubble Bobble miles ahead of R-Type. Admittedly I didn't give it much of a go when I played it, but the others are well ahead in playability due in no small part to them being 'good' ports on the ST. I'd suggest playing R-Type on MAME and / or one of the Dot Emu mobile ports then the ST / Jag version. I love scrolling shooters (hence why I happily shelled out a lot for the special edition of Sturmwind on the DC), but I personally didn't get along with this version of R-Type at all. Your mileage may vary, imho, etc etc.

As CJ said, this is purely a fan exercise, who knows what will be released.
