1064XL Schematics?

Dropcheck

Recommended Posts

I asked this question in another thread and did not get a response and I'm thinking that maybe it got lost in the depth of the thread. So I am giving it it's own dedicated one.

I am thinking about adding a dedicated slot for 600XL memory expansion ala an internal 1064XL to the reimaged 1090XLR I am creating. I have the Sobola schematic, but it is confusing and at some points downright inaccurate.

Would someone be willing to open up their 1064XL and do a continuity trace and compare it to the schematic I've made. Or if there is an accurate schematic already? PM me please.

Why would you want to do it that way?

In my mind, the sensible option for something onboard the 1090 would be provision to plug in 512K, 1 Meg, <whatever> worth of modern day SRAM.

Then have an option jumper as to whether you override onboard Ram (for 16K 600XL) or run only as expanded.

But the problem with that and some Ram expansions - VBXE relies on itself being able to be the sole provider of override to system Ram which makes it incompatible with some types of Ram expansion.

That is always going to be an option via the internal slots. In the original idea of the 1090 it seems that Atari intended for there to be the memory expansion for the 600XL and standard Centronics and serial ports builtin. The additional slots would then handle any additional upgrades.

In the interest of trying to keep some manner of retro feel to the new version and to give the customer who buys the basic box a feeling that he is getting more than just a box I wanted to add these builtins. I know not everyone has a stock 600XL that could use the memory upgrade and not everyone has a real vintage printer or modem, but it's there if they do. And the internal slots are free for other uses.
