tring to get oids to run. can't open the disk image

Recommended Posts

I'm running Hatari 1.9.0 on my windows 64 bit machine. the emulator seems to run fine, but I can't get the image of Oids to run. How do I open a disk image from the emulator? I see disk A and disk B, but I can't open an image with them. do you double click on the disk A? I try and open A disk drive nothing happens. the same with B. I did get something to work as the FTL screen started but the emulator but then the system says an panic bus error and the emulator pauses. I click on the floppy drives, and I see the disk light change color but nothing seems to work.

I would just like to get the game Oids to run. Any suggestions? I was at this page: http://oldguygaming.com/oids.

Is the image of oids bad? Is it the emulator? I've even tried running this from a dos command. same issues.

Thanks.

Peter is right, TOS 1.4 is perfect and I personally found running most ST games works best (for me) using TOS 1.2

Check out here for a humble guide, there are pics to click on for the preferences : https://ataricrypt.blogspot.co.uk/2015/08/the-basics.html(also has links to sites for TOS, etc, etc) However, they're for Mac but i imagine PC should look similar and just be the same. You need to first specify the machine under 'system' and select the TOS which you've downloaded. Then assign the game to drive A. Tell us how you get on, its actually easier than you imagine :)

Great. I downloaded the UK version of TOS and made the changes to the Hatari settings. The game booted properly, but now I have to find the keyboard layout for the game. Thanks again. Any games you guys recommend? I am a big Apple 2 fan and played a ton of games on my older system. Suggestions for ST games?

Thanks again.

I prefer to play cracked games myself, from the different cracker groups at the time, like Automation, Pompey Pirates, D-Bug et cetera, which you can easily download from http://www.planetemu.net/roms/atari-st-compilations-games. You have lists from several cracker groups, of what games they had on their compilation disks over at http://members.optusnet.com.au/atari1/.

All those games usually work well with TOS 1.62, so I just emulate an Atari 1040STE all the time, which was what I played on, when I was little. :)

A great place to find games are http://www.atarilegend.com/games/games_main.php You also have http://www.atarimania.com/pgemainsoft.awp?type=G&system=S, although I find Atari Legend has more pictures of the games, which I find useful.

Yeah it's true that at the moment some games have way too little shots. This will change in the future when i've time to play games with trainers. We have 45 656 screenshots at the moment which isn't that bad i think ;)

Edit:

Tbullet, here's a link for the manual if you still need it -> http://www.atarimania.com/game-atari-st-oids_10116.html

No, far from it, I think Atarimania is a great resource. I use it regularly myself for finding manuals and Atarimania covers software and demos too, which I like. So I really appreciate the work that has been done with it. It has become a really good site, so I want to say thank you for that. :)

It's very easy to set up a virtual hard drive and play hard disk adapted games. Oids is available in that format as well as a ton of other games:

http://atari.8bitchip.info/fromhd.php

All you have to do is open up Hatari, press F12 for the menu, go to hard disks, click browse on GEMDOS drive and link your chosen folder to the emulator. The emulator will then recognise the folder as a hard disk and you can access it exactly as you would on a real ST.
