Suggestions? Something to put my Trinitron on.

Recommended Posts

I recently bought one of those $25, 3-shelf, wire-frame sets of utility shelves, currently holding 3 Atari consoles, an Odyssey2, some bins of controllers, and a 20" Trinitron. It's not the prettiest thing in the world, but it's been a tidy solution that looks clean, can hold a lot of weight, and didn't break the bank!

Ms. Pac-Man will thank you.

Good luck!

If you want something easy and it will be in like a basement, stack a bunch of cement blocks up and toss some wood around it. I wouldn't do that on a floor that can cave in but you will not get much stronger than that.

If this was on a floor, then take some 4x4's and add a 1' piece of wood on it like a work bench.

Although there is probably something pre-made you could buy that would support it, just tossing you some ideas.

Have a metal shop weld you a badass frame. Possibilities are endless.

You can find some decent TV stands built for that kind of display if you just hit up enough thrift store furniture departments.

Eventually I found a rather nice unit with a label on back that said it supported up to 200lbs on the top shelf. Tempered glass, black frame, silver color shelf supports... looks really nice... the thing on bottom is a frame I made out of 2x4s which I cut into with a router to make the unit sit securely on top of so the top shelf sit high enough to squeeze it between some other shelf units.

It held my 150lb Sony PVM 2530 fine, though I never got any pictures of it on there and it's all packed up now since I'm getting ready to move.

It was made by a company called Tech Craft, model PTV30B. It's discontinued but it looks like I was able to find some online retailer that had it in stock... for a price...

I would just try hitting the thrift stores until something you like pops up.

WOOD. Don't put on glass or cheap chinese metal stands from Wall Mart. Get yourself a solid wood (not particle board) stand.

Tempered glass can be very strong, you just have to make sure the weight ratings sticker is still on the unit so you can verify.

Also, I've seen plenty of perfectly fine TV stands that were clearly particle board that didn't bend at all when I sat my 210lb ass on them, they just didn't fit my space constraints. What's most important is how it's built, with wood and particle board, if it doesn't have good support structure built in, it's going to bend and potentially break.

This is just going to make finding something workable so much harder.

my tv stand has been around since the 90's with a 27 inch sanyo on it until about 3 years ago when I finally upgraded tv's, stand is 1 inch thick particle board and top's maybe 3 foot but the span it goes across is less than that (has storage on the side for then tapes now discs)
