Hyper Sentinel now on kickstarter

Recommended Posts

What people fail to understand in the gaming industry is that retro games have an appeal to two kinds of people. First, there's the people who have loved these things all along. They tend not to be interested in most modern games not because they love the oldskool pixelated graphics and blippy sounds, but because THE GAMES ARE FUN in spite of those things. I mean, the C64 had some exceptional titles that really pushed the boundaries, but look at the average game on the platform, or, hell, ANY game on the Apple // prior to the Apple IIgs? Or since we're on AtariAge, how about most games for the VCS? The games that people love to play might look horrifyingly bad, but they are still fun to play. If they weren't, we wouldn't be playing them.

Then there's the hipsters. And I'll just stop right there.

This game looks like it's geared toward them, with their ironically 3D low-res pixelated models with realtime light and shadow so you can see how retro it is! BIG hit at Starbucks I'm sure. Unless I hear that the game is actually fun in its own right, I doubt I'll be interested.

Looks like a fun game, but a 35k pound goal is fucking bonkers for a project like this.

Also, if I hear one more game referred to as a "love letter" to retro games I'm going to rage-puke all over my computer. Such an over-used, completely meaningless term.

Isn't £4 for a mobile phone game pretty much as well? £20 for a digital download PC game also suggests it would be a fairly A-rated release. £45 for a boxed game might work with some console people, not sure about a modern PC game.

Now they invite all potential backers to their Club Hewson, where they in private can discuss how to move on. I understand this kickstarter more like a survey if there is any interest for the game. They got acknowledgement from 286 people at least.

It's back and the prices have changed since this with a more realistic target, I just backed the 15quid package so i can have a digital copy for my PS4. Loved me some Uridium back in the day and still play it on my Wii.

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/robhwson/hyper-sentinel-a-retro-inspired-arcade-shoot-em-up- for the new packages.

Oh and there's a demo too for those not sure about it.
