milry62
Hello all, new to the forums here. I need to rebuild my controllers, and have always ended up on Best Electronics site, which always looks a little sketchy to me. Is it legit? Recommended? Thanks! Albert
Yes, Best Electronics is legitimate. I have purchased from them many times. ..Al
English Invader
It's legit but it's not very well run. You have to send an e-mail for the items you want and the guy who runs it will only take your order if he can be bothered.

I agree it would be nice if they had a regular store where you could put items in a shopping cart, pay for them, and have them shipped to you. I've never had any problems ordering via email, it's just a slower and more cumbersome process. ..Al
+sramirez2008
Totally legit. I've purchased several items from them and never had a problem, just pick out your item and send an email. Great packaging too. Here's a link to a recent purchase from AA member bigfriendly, which reminds me...I could use a pair of gold contact CX-40's. http://atariage.com/forums/topic/255084-new-joysticks-from-best-electronics-are-here/?hl=%2Bbest+%2Belectronics
Osgeld
I have wondered for a while, but never bothered to ask, cause I dont have any plans to navigate that place and beg for service, BUT if you order via email, how do you pay? Do you mail in a money order or what?

I've most recently (just a few days ago) paid via PayPal, and I've used credit cards in the past (by calling). ..Al
+sramirez2008
I pay via PayPal too. Here's a link to the payment methods they accept. http://best-electronics-ca.com/ordering.htm#visa
milry62
Thanks everybody! Waiting for him to email me back with a quote for the parts I need for one controller (plan to rebuild myself). Plan on paying with Paypal.
CPUWIZ
Brad is 100% legit, I have ordered from him many times and he is always really nice to me. He even went out of his way to unbox 20 Atari 7800 carts for me, so I could save on shipping. If you order something, get the embroidered Atari t-shirt, high quality. I have 2 of them. retango
Hi, 100% legit, but very old-school, pre-internet.. I tried by email with mixed luck, sometimes they did not answer... I would recommend you call him by phone and have your card on hand.. He's very nice, and ships fast.. Totally recommended if you are up to a retro shopping experience!

You have to put the right keywords into the email subject. He has a strong filter. I absolutely love the Atari packing tape.

Osgeld
yea, ok I give him the benifit, but there is no way in hell im giving some random stranger a CC number and all the pertinent info over the phone for them to write it down on a post-it-note, then once the dust settles chuck it in the bin with all the security of crumpling it up. I actually got fired from a company when I refused to do just that. and a 50 dollar minimum for paypal is a downside when I want to buy a 5 dollar part, considering paypal charges just about half of my local sales tax I have never ordered from him cause he has never had anything I have not found elsewere outside of gold plated atari boards, which is mostly horsecrap, since its a digital signal and at the price he charges its not a hard gold plating that will last any longer than HASL or ENIG (ENIG is what the stock controllers use) same reason I chose lead free HASAL smooth side up on my 2600 / 7800 rapid fire controllers, its not going to last any longer than a chineese soft gold plating and cost a lot less, which is almost 10x less than a hard gold contact yea I know I am full of shit, which is why I am a IPC certified interconnect designer, and know the difference tween pcb surface finishes and their pro's and cons just cause its yellow its not the same thing Edited July 25, 2016 by Osgeld
Everett1954
Wow, Before you assume what he does with your CC number why don't you ask him directly. If you really don't want to order from him, you can find tons of people on-line and on ebay RE-SELLING his products for more and copying his instructions. His website is a bit outdated but all the info you could want is there. He is quick to answer his email and always helpful. Best Electronics has been around a long time , it is a one person business and he does a great service for the Atari Community. Most of this community has ordered from Best at one time or another and have never had any problems. His parts work well, I've rebuild my 5200 controller using his parts and they are going strong.. BTW, Gold, Tin, or Silver contacts have nothing to do with digital or analog signals, its about corrosion and oxidation. Of course as a " Certified Interconnect designer' you already knew that.
VectorGamer
If you don't want to bother with Best there's a seller on eBay that sells all the parts for 5200 controllers. I bought from this person instead of Best for hassle-free experience.

I know someone who has a bank gift card that works like a credit card, and he preloads it with the cash for each transaction. That what it's useless once the money is spent. TrekMD
I've ordered from Best without problems. It's certainly a legit company to get Atari stuff and the items you get from them are excellent.

A: charge to credit/debit card directly B: With PayPal fees if order is under $50. (About $2.50 per $40 is what I've paid) Total will be: Item $, PayPal Fees $, Shipping $ = Grand Total $ (send grand total $ as retail for good/service through PayPal to their PayPal address) And that's it! No worries. Fees are just waived over $50....
Zookeeper
Always done well with Best. Never used their repair service, but just placing orders has been fine.
kogden
Best is a good company that's been around for ages. A shopping cart would do wonders for his site though and make dealing with customers less of a hassle and reduce his stress level. He could probably focus more on just inventory, shipping and receiving at that point. There's a lot of things he sells that are really tough to find elsewhere, especially on the computer side of things.
Lendorien
Best is a good company. I've bought from them and have been pleased with the outcome. I will say though, that it'd be nice if they spent a couple dollars on web development. Having a proper shop page would make it easier to buy from them and make their lives easier too with proper inventory and purchase order tools. The current website is practically unusable. holygrailvideogames.com
I first bought from Brad about 20 years ago. He is an honest guy. He still runs his business much like he did back then. I just wish that he still had Bounty Bob in stock for $35 like he did years ago.
