roller controller fixable?

My roller controller goes L/R and buttons work but it will not go U/D. Is this fixable or is it just a big controller holder now?

Stick roller or seized bearing? Take it apart and see that the horizontal rod spins freely and that the bearing is still loose enough. Then check inside the IR tower where the encoder wheel fits in for dust or contamination. If those checks out, get a digital camera and look into the IR tower slot using the camera. See if you can see IR light from the diode. Most camera can "see" IR and turn that into visible light. If you see light, the photo transistor may be bad or the associated circuitry may be bad. If you don't see light, maybe a burned out IR LED or resistor for the LED.

just to be sure you plug both cable in port 1 and 2 since cause port one do right left and port 2 up and down if i remember right....
