Who is making Eiffel for Mega ST?

Would like to join in on this thread. I was also looking at one of these. If there is a design somewhere for the PCB, I can *probably* take it from there. I saw a schematic for the electronics, I might be able to make that work. But more information would make it easier.

Okay, found the schematic. Now need to figure out what the values of the components are. Based on the photos, this *should* be replicable. Depends on the availability of the PIC chip used. No promises, but I think I can make this.

Hello Guys,

Please find attached the complete information I have on the Eiffel inferface.

It includes schematics and PCB designs.

I've build at least one of the two PCB's. I cannot remember why I have two designs.

Usually, the newest is the one I made.

What I did, was make a copy of all relevant PDF's on a transparant film.

Then glue the sheets together, with a piece of PCB in between as a guidance for the Photo-sensitive PCB.

The design was made with Ultiboard. Now know as Multisim.

Thanks for this! It goes a long way to explaining a couple of things that were difficult to see in the original schematic. I have a couple of questions:

1. What program did you do your schematic in? I could re-do it in another program, but it would be easier to load up the original.

2. It looks like there is a daughterboard configuration for the LCD screen? You could have two lines coming off of the mainboard that connected to the 74LS174 (that controls the LCD)?

3. Is the Coldfire option necessary to build? Seems to me it is not.

4. It looks like you have a different connector for the PS/2 components. Is that true?

Thanks again.

Hello MacRorie,

1) The schematics were done in Ulticap. This program is now part of Multisim. The .SCH file is the design.

2) The LCD is connected to the J1 connector. Yes it could have been smaller with an extra board. But I choose not to.

3) Coldfire is not needed. But at the time it looked intresting. I've not used it. Needs another processor as well.

4) The PS/2 connector is reused from a PC-MB. It's a green and purple one on top of eachother. That saved some board space.

Guus,

Thanks for the reply. Sorry about the first question. I momentarily forgot how to read ;-)

Do you have a source for the PIC? Looks like there 16F876 is no longer manufactured. I can find 16F876A-I on eBay. It looks functionally equivalent (at least that is what the migration datasheets state), but if you have an alternative, that would be awesome. Is the PIC18F242 a drop in replacement?

Hello MacRorie,

This sometimes happens to me as well. We humans are easilly distracted. :-)

All data that I have available is the Zip that I've posted.

I have used the 16F876A-I and that works just fine.

No idea if the 18F242 is a possible replacement.

The source code is in the data as well. Just look at the directory "Sources\firmware: Eiffel.asm"

One challenge or disadvantage. All comment is in French language. And that's not so easy if it's not your native langage.

Make sure you put both the program and the EEprom data in the processor. (I forgot about the EEprom and then it won't work)

Okay, well, I have ordered parts. The semester is starting up, so time will be precious as I start teaching again, but I think this should be doable soon. Thanks for the head's up on the program and eeprom data. I will keep that in mind.

Thanks for the help!
