Sega Dreamcast with 3 games, controller, and VMU

Hey everyone,

I'm looking to downsize my collection a bit, so some stuff has to go. Figure I'd offer it up here first!

I have a Dreamcast with 3 games: Shenmue, NFL 2K1, and Skies of Arcadia. It comes with one controller, a VMU, and power and A/V cables.

The Console:

The console itself is a little yellowed, but it plays fine. It is an early build, made in September 1999. Controller works fine, and the VMU saves but needs a new battery for out-of-the-controller activities.

The games:

Shenmue: CIB. Discs are in great shape. The front of the case has a hairline crack, but it's not terrible. Tested and works fine.

NFL 2K1: CIB. Tested and works fine.

Skies of Arcadia: Discs and booklet in non-original case. No artwork. Disc 1 has been resurfaced at some point, but seems to work fine. I've played through for a few hours on it. Disc 2 has a small nick on the edge of the disc, and may need resurfacing, as the music freezes up and/or skips (see below pic).

Price: $75 shipped USPS in a large flat rate box. I accept PayPal.

Let me know if you have any questions. Thanks for looking!

To be fair it's a nice lot but what I think it is entirely is that Skies of Arcadia disc 2 is scaring people. It has a physical gouge out of the edge of the disc itself and you said the music skips/drops out. That shows damage in the data area. Odds are the disc is shot and a replacement on ebay is currently around $35 shipped, if it was solid for the price people would easily overlook the replacement case and lack of art one could just print up anyway.

I totally understand that. I figured that the game just needed a resurfacing if a track was skipping, since it played fine otherwise.

Would $75 shipped be a better price? If anyone is local and interested, I can do trades as well.

I don't know, probably. I'm not in the market for one having re-acquired one just days before Christmas. But it meant a lot of catch up and price evaluating online too so I'm up on various stuff, that's why I made the post to try and help out. Given the value of a DC in general and that of Shenmue as well, plus 1 good working Skies disc and manual I'd say you're not out of line since shipping is included in that. A good dreamcast is worth at least $30 or $40, with discoloring on yours lower end if someone was touchy over it and a VMU is like a $5 item which wasn't included with the system itself (just the 2 wires and controller were.). Shenmue complete in nice shape is a $30+ game on its own. That football game has less value than the VMU but makes for a nice sports game or at least a good replacement case for a future cracked one. :)

The nick in the disc isn't in an area with data, but there are numerous other scratches across the entire surface that can be seen and that could be causing the skips. The main issue with the chunk missing on the edge, would be possibly causing an imbalance with the disc spin, but I'm not sure if it is enough to really be an issue. I am interested on how the heck it got that chip in it though as that wouldn't be that easy without more damage usually present as well.

Question? Why haven't you gotten it resurfaced to see if the music skipping stops? Many a pretty nasty looking scratched up disc from my Saturn and DC collection have been made to work again and look like new with a good resurfacing.

Great question, and I have a dumb answer.

I have another copy of the game, and I don't have a place nearby that resurfaces discs that I know of. I wish I did, because I have a scratched copy of Super Smash Bros on the GC that won't play, and I'd like to get that resurfaced as well. As for the nick in the edge, that's how I got it when I found it years ago in a used game store. I've since come across another complete copy of the game, so this one is going up for sale.

Let me be clear: I'm not trying to swindle anyone. I like it here, and I wouldn't want anyone to get something that doesn't work, hence me being upfront about the condition. I can remove the game from the bundle altogether and sell it later if no one is interested. Of course, the price would go down a bit.

If no one is interested at all in the bundle (and I totally understand why), I'll just use it for trade fodder at one of the local shops.

I think it could be a sticking point. I just saw how old the thread was and the recent conversation and felt a need to reply to help is all. I think Skies probably is along with the price is the problem. The thing is if someone wanted the original case art (which the case would come with most likely) and the missing busted disc they'd be better off not bothering.) But if the price were lowered and just had the other 2 games and the VMU with it you'd probably see it go faster.

Perhaps sell the working skies disc and manual alone as a package deal for $20-25 just to get rid of it.
