Wow. That Tiny Arcade version of Q*Bert sounds like one of the worst conversions out there. Most ports/conversions, including both Basic Fun Q*Berts, at least have Coily chasing you. Despite the lack of red and green balls, I found the basic fun segmented Q*Bert to be very good. It gets quite a bit right that the Tiny Arcade version got wrong.

one correction : i did get an extra man at 9000 points, but thats still wrong, and you don't hear the extra man sound.

not sure if you get them every 9000 though.

Basicfun for their mini arcade line last year deviated into doing a tabletop Skee-Ball game. It used to be like $30 when it came out sometime in the last quarter to hit those Christmas sales, now 1/2 that on amazon. https://www.amazon.com/Basic-Fun-Skee-Ball-Electronic/dp/B07BTGND85

I found one sealed up in the box at a goodwill at the start of the week and finally assembled it today. I have to say I'm thoroughly impressed with the design of it as it's quite well thought out and designed other than where to store the balls if you're not using it. Yes it has a forward tray they fall into, but with no cover easily those 9 balls could get lost. The spring loaded pivoting shooter rod in the center is nicely done and gives a good approximation of the full size machine as best as it can. The thing overall works great, if there is a flaw there other than ball loss being possible, the scoreboard is a lousy cheap dark calculator like LCD and not well seen at all unless nicely let up by a lamp.

The play is good on it, and you get 2 choices of classic, but also a speed game where you get 60sec on the clock and you score all you can in that time. I could see this getting boring with extended play but going at it for a few minutes now and again it's a very nice distraction and scales well in size compared to their mini arcade cabinets too.

i guess the tetris microcard had pretty high scoring rates for 1 hour, 7 million+

its just a clip of sped up gameplay.

i can't imagine how cramped his fingers were though.

I recently bought the older version. Despite being twice as expensive and grayscale, it appears to have vastly superior build quality. :D

Is there a modern variant of Tetris that isn't completely borked by T-spins?

you might want to write a review just to let people know what this one is like.

or if you get the other one, a comparison.

IMO, using T-spin to fill holes was an impressive parlor trick bitd, but the scoring is overwhelmingly one sided for tspins in modern tetris. You get more points for clearing two lines with a Tspin than four with a Tetris, so the game becomes more about setting up Tspins compared to Tetris. And because you get more points for clearing less lnes, there are more opportunities to score. I never had issue with piece holds (keep the I-beam until you are ready to use it) as it did not break the mechanics.

Wife got me a Tempest Replicade for my birthday. I'm impressed with the build quality, and plays fine. It's a click-style rotary, which is OK with me but some will probably call it a deal-breaker.

Odd thing is that five extra spinner knobs were included, that seems like a lot. Wondering if that's intentional, my brief time playing the game the knob didn't strike me as seeming overly fragile or anything. I didn't take them out of the bag to see if they were somehow different.

the miniature one is too hard to play with, and just for show.

the larger one is for actually playing.

there is a lag and delay on the stock machine, you have to get the firmware update to play the game properly.

This is the Replicade, which is the 12" one. I don't know if that's your small or larger one (twss?). But I think it plays just fine.

Not that I really care (actually, it's because of stuff like this that makes me not care as I'll never purchase these things), but on games like Pac-Man, Ms. Pac-Man, Q*bert, Frogger, etc... they really should be putting the joysticks in the middle. It's the little things that make a big difference. Going out of your way to replicate artwork, cabinet, emulation (though typically half-assed), etc., yet the joystick is on the left? Pffft.

Probably done that way by design to appease the Nintendo thumbpad generation, but that there deserves another pfffft.

I'm waiting for the Rolling Thunder MyArcade but I agree the sticks on those mini cabinets could be alot better. Centering them would be a good start. I have the burgertime and find it unplayable because of the precision involved with the ladders and the controls just are not up to that kind of precision.

Also thanks Negative 1 for the heads up on the Tempest lag. I've had that replicade for about a month and haven't played it much. The lag would answer why it seemed off. Their centipede I've been playing often and have really enjoyed.

Centipede is much worse. If you don't patch it, the battery drains and dies out no matter if you turn it off or not.

It needs a firmware patch.
