KLund1
I have sick 800XL. I think is was a garauge find I picked up in a lot. After a magor cleaning, I booted it up. I get a blue screen with only a cursor at the top left. No qwerty key respones. It will not goto to basic. I can't start the self test. It will not boot a disk. It dose play some cart games, like Pac-Man, 3D tic-tac-toe, basketball, space invaders but not most others. The keyboard reset key works, and power +start gets a cassette load sound. Joystick and Start, Option keys work for Pac-man, as dose the game play and sounds. I have reseated the 4 large IC's that are socketed, no change. Suggestions for a fix? Gunstar
That may be a bad OS, some carts have their own OS like Star Raiders.
KLund1
How can I fix a bad os in a 800XL? Or at least test that the OS is bad?
spookt
Easiest way would be to swap the OS chip with one from a working machine and retest.
Gunstar
Unless his OS chips are soldered in as is the case on my 800XL...then not so easy...unless it's possible to "piggy-back" a good OS chip over a bad like with ram chips, but I've never tried that. luckily my main computer is a 1200XL with all the chips socketed. Fuji-Man
Swap or have somebody put a socket in and burn you an OS eprom.

KLund1
SOLVED: I pulled and socket replaced the OS and BASIC IC's With know good chips Nojoy Just for the heck ot it I started swapping the 4 larger IC's starting with POKEY. Rebooted, ALL GOOD!!! It was a bad POKEY, or at least partly bad one. Like I said above the keyboard worked, but I guess the rest of it's I/O was bad. Anyone have a extra POKEY they might was to part with...??
Brentarian
Best and B&C have them but the shipping is high unless you are ordering other items. I recently bought one off Ebay from this seller: http://ebay.com/itm/282113371170?_trkparms=pageci%3A01e1399c-67f3-11e6-86e0-005056b62981%7Cparentrq%3Aaf5527ad1560a62293a1f228fffdcfed%7Ciid%3A3&_mwBanner=
+kheller2
Or find a 7800 ball blazer or commando cart. sacrilegious, I know.
Brentarian
Same with a 5200, but I'd only strip it if it was beyond repair. You can also salvage antic and gtia from them as well.
KLund1
No trouble, I'm about 4 blocks from Best, I can just go over at lunch and get one. No shipping for me, but have to pay the high sales tax 9.25%
