Hi @ll,

i'd like to dump a few european cartridges which are still missing @Atarimania (MiKrosoft Basic (germany),Microsoft Basic II (Germany),  Atari Logo (France -not even listed- and Germany).

Do you have a "Dumping Cartridges for dummies" somewhere ?

Digging the web leads to a lot of 404... If found this (https://sites.google...aripal/cartdump) but it's not really clear.

I'm looking for something simple, step by step guide since i'm not a programmer :)

My tools : A PC, An Atari 800xl + peripherals, a SIO2PC and APE Pro. Of course i don't have any soldering knowledge either.

Thanks a lot, i know we have a lot of guru here who will find my question...well...stupid. I assume

Regards,

Marsup.

The Cartridges you mentioned should be 8k or 16k so you can make a backup of these with no additional hardware

Thanks a lot for the video Ndary.

I will try this and post the resulting files here.

The next question is : Is it possible to run the file you obtain with this method ?

I know that converting the result to ATR needs some  work on the binary file because of the R/W protection method so i hope someone will be able to do it with my dumps.

I also found some threads here saying that it's doable with some emulators but this solution seems to easy to be true.

Regards.

Most of the copying programs, do not alter the cartridge binary contents. However some of these copiers will add an extra 6 bytes as a loading header to the cartridge copy (game/program). Most copied cartridges will crash due to protection codes when loaded.

Although, there are many ways to make a cartridge copy works, the best way is to remove the first 6 bytes (if they were added by the copying program) and rename the file extension to .ROM. Use Altirra emulator to load and execute it.

This way, the cartridge code will be preserved (intact).

Hi,

I finally managed to dump my first ROM !

First i had to use the same version of cartdridge dumper. There is a 2.0 release vailable but it killed 2 floppies....

Then

- i formatted a blank floppy with Mydos45. I took some time to find because the Cartdridge dumper seems to write to this format only.

- i followed your video

- Used APE to transfert the floppy to an ATR File.

- Opened the ATR with ATADIM (in windows 95 compatibility mode)

- Extracted the ROM file from the ATR.

- Renamed the file with .ROM extension

- Loaded the ROM in Altirra...Victory !  :-D

Here's the result : The French Atari Logo Cartdridge (not yet referenced in Atarimania) is now saved for the first time !

Thanks, Marsup.

I just added it to Atarimania. Do you have any documents for the cart? Could you take a strait-down picture of the cart?

Nice,

The documentation is huge (~300 pages) so i'm not sure i'll be able to do it quickly.

But i have some pictures for you, see below.

Hi marsupilami

The Cartdump 2.0 software does not produce dos file.. You need extra tool to extract the bin image.. Ver1 is what best for 8k or 16k

V2.0 is good for xegs cartridges

Let me know if you need more help

Hi,

I have some troubles with the german version of "Atari Writer" cart i've dumped.

It looked fine until i did more tests with it :

Everything is fine until i use the "Inhaltsverzeichnis" Menu in Altirra (Table of Contents).

So :

Is it a problem with my method ? With my file ? A kind of copy protection ?

I'll appreciate your help.

File is attached.

Thanks

Is there a DOS disk in the disk drive when you use that option?

Not sure what DOS's Atariwriter supports but most likely 2.0 2.5 and 3.0 as standard and any DOS's that support standard densities..

More to the actual point I'm thinking, did you first
boot DOS when using that cartridge because that would
be a MUST do move first off.

No file attached, you'll have to use the orange box
at the bottom that says More Reply Options in order
to attach a file in that series of reply boxes there.

Oops, i don't know what happened with my file, anyway, here it is a a link : http://minu.me/fofg

With a DOS disk in Altirra, it's better indeed, it gives the floppy directory.

But the original cartridge in a real 800XL is throwing an error instead of this garbled chars.
