walter_J64bit
Has anyone tried this out? I do have what's needed to do the mod.
xenomorpher
I almost bought an original PlayStation to do this a few years ago. I already had a PSOne with a screen and found out the paperclip and Action Replay/Codebreaker trick to play backups and imports, so never bothered buying one. I'm reading through the comments of the video you posted and see that some people are having problems, but they could have not followed directions or burned discs wrong. I'd check out a couple more tutorials to see if the guy goofed in the video and then do it.
RainbowCemetery
pic12f629s are like $1 so i never imagined doing anything but chipping one. this is pretty interesting though, if i had the items i'd probably give it a shot for fun. Austin
My interest was piqued, but it seems like there are a lot of steps involved to do this.
Asaki
Hmm...I was going to try to find a chip, but I might have to try this. I'm just surprised that it's even possible. You might want to change the title of this thread though, it explicitly states that the softmod does not work on the PSone model (no parallel port). My interest was piqued, but it seems like there are a lot of steps involved to do this. I just finished watching the vid, there's actually not that many steps. Burn disc, boot disc, flash your GameShark cart, enjoy! He spent a few minutes showing how to use the swap trick, but if you have other methods of booting burned discs, you don't need to do that. Man, this is cool though, I can finally get some use out of that GameShark I found at Goodwill a while back (it's not the version that can boot discs...well, maybe now it can be). Good idea I'd not think of that at the time I'd made the post, maybe one of the administrator can add "with parallel port" the title of this post. I just changed the title. Thanks for posting this. It's cool to see what fans can come up with to get around stupid restrictions.

I quickly skimmed through the attached forum thread and there seemed to be a boatload of steps. But, I didn't get into it thoroughly so it's possible it's one of those guides that unnecessarily documents every little step ("Step 1: Open your drive; Step 2; Make sure your drive door is open; Step 3: Check to see if there is a disc in; Step 4: If previous step had a disc in drive, remove disc; If not, proceed to Step 5"). Ha..
Asaki
I didn't go to the URL yet, I just wanted to see it in action I guess. Seems really simple if you've already got all the parts needed, which I do, but yeah...probably much easier to just use a modchip, if you can still find them. ...which I'll need to do anyway, if I can ever figure out where the heck my PSone went... ...maybe one of the administrator can add "with parallel port" the title of this post. Hmm, still sounds a bit weird though, since they never released a PSone that had a parallel port =)
RainbowCemetery
modchips for the ps1 are so easy to make i doubt they'd ever be difficult to find. i have like a dozen pics in a drawer right now that'd do the job
TDIRunner
I tried this the other night. I got everything to work the same way it worked in the video up until the point where I was ready to start the game. When I start it, it gets stuck on the loading screen. Has anyone who has tried this had similar issues?
Asaki
I was just skimming through the thread, he says the mod was never intended for running commercial games, so not every game works, but he'll try to fix some with updates if he can. I'm still going to try it, just for the heck of it, since I've already got the disc burned. But I tore the whole house apart trying to figure out where I put my games, and I finally found my PSone...so I guess it's time to get a chip =)
Asaki
Hmm, yeah, I can't get it to work either. The screen shows up a little glitchy, and then it won't boot any discs, not even official discs or the disc it was installed from. I tried installing just Caetla, and that seemed fine, but it's all in a different language (Chinese?) and none of the options seem to boot the disc. Edit: I think I figured it out. Just install Smart Cart Auto Stop, it seems to be loading quite a few discs. I get even better results if I follow the swap trick detailed here: http://xianaix.net/text/emsfaq.txt That site also has some other BIOS ROMs that might be worth trying out. Greg2600
Ehhhh, this seems unreliable. I bought the PSIO and sticking with it.
Asaki
I cant get passed disc swap trick to save my life to start the softmod install. D'oh! I don't remember exactly how to do it, but I skipped the part in that video...there are probably better videos out there. A friend gave me a Gameshark disc and I haven't needed to do the swap trick in a long time.

Asaki
4.11A, according to the center ring. It can run burns/imports on the PSX, but not on the PSone. Edited October 5, 2016 by Asaki
