Omega-TI
Does anyone remember the TI-99/4A commercial display units? Do you know if any have survived? Does anyone even have a photo of one?
+save2600
Would like to see one myself. K-Mart and Sears must have had 'em, no? Do NOT recall any other like-minded retailer having them around Chicagoland that I ever saw. Have seen cartridges throughout the years with telltale signs of them being tethered to some kind of a display though. And if the Sears by us had a display unit, must have been pulled by the very early 80's, cause that's when I started shopping for Atari 2600 games there. Clearly remember a 2600, 5200 and Vectrex display though.
+Ksarul
I know Zach acquired a complete one as part of the haul from the old Dhein's True Value hoard. He was offering it for sale privately for a couple of thousand dollars, IIRC. I have seen a few of the glass display cases off and on too. There are probably a few of them still out there in addition to the ones I know about though.
+arcadeshopper
I have some cart cases from one snip
Arnuphis
Yes I remember it well. My local Debenhams (UK department store) had one. They had the demonstration cartridge running. It was a short lived thing and I have never seen one since.
+Ksarul
BITD I saw the displays in K-Mart, JC Penney, Sears, and AAFES stores in the US (and at overseas military bases in the case of AAFES). There were others, I just never saw them. I also saw one in the KDW (Kaufhaus des Westens) in Berlin, Germany. Later, I saw another one in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia (in early 1984). Omega-TI
Okay, contest time. Who will be first and probably only one to locate and post a photo? Mission impossible maybe?
LASooner
They had one at the Sears in Norman, Oklahoma. I remember it well, it was next to the Sears branded Atari 2600 clone.
ti99iuc
I have some pictures of the retail Display Unit that Zach has to sell, but he said that the price at the moment is not cheaper than $5.000. i also asked to him more details about it and some more pictures but i haven't got any answer.
Omega-TI
Sadly that looks rather cheap compared to other commercial display units I've seen. I can't imagine anyone who's sane forking over 5K for that, Of course that is just my opinion.
+save2600
Maybe some ACE Hardware stores still have some gathering dust in a back room? Probably all been demolished or converted to something else by now though, but some dare soul could run around asking them if they happen to have one still. Would like to be a fly on the wall just to see the reactions... a TI whatsitwhosit - come again you say?
+acadiel
I saw one at Gemco in Beaumont, TX, as a kid. Also Sears as well. One of these in Beaumont that was NOT part of a mall (or maybe was later). It was downtown that I remember. There was also a Sears in Parkdale Mall in Beaumont that had a demo TI cabinet. I don't remember Toys R Us having one; they just hung everything on pegs.
gfreige
It was one available not long time ago in eBay, with the ti99 name misspelled as tl99. I saw it because I bought him a lot of other goodies. This is the listing (sold sadly) Vintage texas instruments color monitor, pha4100a for tl99/4a But I think you are talking about a very different thing Sorry if I misunderstood Edited October 7, 2016 by gfreige
+Ksarul
The thread is about the display stand that all of the equipment was on when they sold the TI in the stores, @gfriege. Basically, a table/book case/frames for cardboard advertising material. The monitor you identified was a good find too, though. Welcome to the group!
atrax27407
Jim, I'm surprised that you don't have one tucked away in a corner somewhere - have you checked lately?

+Ksarul
Actually, a friend mentioned seeing one of the glass cases that went with one of the stands in the picture (most stores had two of these cases, along with the display stand) in a thrift store a few months ago. I seriously considered driving over there to buy it (it was about two hours away), but She-Who-Must-Be-Obeyed had a serious conniption fit at the thought. . .so I didn't try to buy it.

Airshack
In 1980 I purchased my first computer (TI-99/4) at Sanger-Harris at the Arlington Texas Six Flags mall. The display was oddly located right between the Men's and Women's clothing area, not by the TVs and electronics? I remember a large display area with the old 9" TI monitor as part of the display. That monitor looked superior to what I achieved at home with the RF modulator. The purchase must have been made right after the RF modulator came out. I want to say the price was around $550 with a $100 rebate coupon. This was before XB existed. Anyway, the display was much larger than those photos posted earlier of the 99/4A display. GDMike
I purchased my console at a sharper image store in the mall in Vegas. There they had a huge display structure setup.
