atarilovesyou
Hey guys, just a quick request...I've been trying to track down an old arcade game we used to play, and it's one of the last ones that I can't find. It was a driving game, first person perspective, but you also had a light gun attached next to the steering wheel controller. It was a pretty hokey setup. The wheel was kinda like your typical Super Sprint style, and the gun was standard stuff...it had an 'outer space' driving on a planet motif, and was pretty difficult if I remember correctly. And I don't remember it was all that great, in any case, but NOSTALGIA DEMANDS that I locate this game Any help? And Happy Thanksgiving weekend to any canucks on the board today Take care, one and all!
Skippy B. Coyote
Hmmm... I believe the game you are looking for is called Night Stocker.

atarilovesyou
Thanks for the input, guys, much appreciated. It turns out I have one MORE that needs an ident.... It's a top-down shooter, in the style of Truxton or something like that...it's two player simultaneous play, and I even think SNK released it but I can't remember the NAME...the schtick is that you have to collect these power pods, which are your weapons, and they attach in a 'tail' behind you. As you use them, they disappear, and you've gotta keep a bunch in tow in order to kick ass in the game. I always thought it had some sort of 'ecology' something in the name, but the only thing that turns up is Eco Fighter, and that's not it at all. I promise this is the last one edit: I played this in the early 90s, but could very well have been made late 80s. atarilovesyou
...ok, just ONE last one: It's a single screen shooting type game, something 'P51 Mustang' or something, where the controls are rotary knobs. You can have two players simultaneous, and you have to sink ships and other vessels by climbing up and diving down. It's pretty random. Any help? Skippy B. Coyote
Jin, you got it on the first shot. Thanks man! No problem! I'm glad to have been able to help you out. Sorry to say that I don't think I'll be able to offer much help with the other two though, light gun games are really the only arcade game genre that I have a reasonably extensive knowledge of. I'm sure that someone else around here will figure them out before too long though.

I probably don't know the Neo-Geo one, but this one rings a bell and I hadn't thought of it in ages! Fun game and our arcade in the mall had it. I kept thinking it was called Flying Tigers, but that was wrong...TWO TIGERS is the name! I remember it with flight sticks, but another version had the rotary knobs... http://www.arcade-museum.com/game_detail.php?game_id=10242

GameGirl420
Cool thread! Reminds me I need help ID'ng these coin-ops I played when I was little. There was a Pac-Man clone type maze game that had a weird underwater theme to it,and the main character you controlled looked like a pirate. I remember playing that at some diner in the late 80's and never saw it again. There was also this other game I played at some ice cream parlor in the early 90's. It was a 2D side scrolling platformer that had a weird character that looked a bit like Inspector Gadget, and you had to jump over pits, barrels and stuff. It was a cocktail game too. Ever since then,I've been wondering wtf were those games called? Thoughts? Edited October 12, 2016 by lushgirl_80
Eltigro
Always annoys me when I try searching for something like a pirate themed game. I get a hundred pages of bootlegged games. "No! Not pirate as in pirated games, pirate as in parrots and rum and "arr me mateys"!"
Jumpman1981
Up until you mentioned the planet themed setup, I thought you were looking for C.O.P.S, Atari's Second and Last Laserdisc Game, Because that had a Steering Wheel and Gun as well (I know you've already found what game it is, I just read this topic this morning)

Not pirate as in pirated games, pirate as in parrots and rum and "arr me mateys"!" I think I know which game you're looking for, but I can't remember the name either, it was a pirate themed beat-'em up by Williams, you had to press a button to change which direction you were facing and had to reclaim your treasure from multiple ships, kind of like The Simpsons Arcade meets Donkey Kong Country with a tiny smidge of The Three Stooges: Brides Is Brides Is it this game you're looking for? +GoldLeader
Hey Lushgirl, I thought maybe I had it, but then I reread your post, and saw you said the character was a pirate... I was going to say Piranha (an underwater Pac man clone)...It's possible you thought of this and your memory is...ummm...like mine... http://www.arcade-museum.com/game_detail.php?game_id=9026

I thought it was an SNK game, but nothing is turning up. The only thing that made it somewhat different than other top down shooters of the time was that your special weapons, your 'bombs' if you use a Twin Cobra analogy, are picked up but rather than spent immediately, you drag them behind you. They follow you like a tail, and when you trigger your 'bombs', then you'd use the next power up in line behind you. You'd need a metric shit ton to defeat the bosses in any handy manner, that I remember. I can't believe how tough this one has been to locate...help me, oh power of the internet! atarilovesyou
Two Tigers? Yep, this was the one. The version I played way back when has the rotary dials to control your fighter. I still think the sirens and sounds from this game (samples, from what I can tell) give it a creepy feel!

I still think the sirens and sounds from this game (samples, from what I can tell) give it a creepy feel! The dedicated version had flight yokes, and sounds (explosions and gunfire) were provided via a tape.
GameGirl420
I saw a cabinet at a flea market. It was called Bucaneer. Upon further investigation it is a bootleg Pac Man clone. That could be it! I looked at the graphics upon a Google search, and the character looks kinda like how I remember, like a pirate version of Pac-Man but I swear the maze looked a bit different. The other game I'm still trying to figure out... Okay the character looked like a keystone capers type cop that had to jump over pits, and I think the enemies were penguins. Could be wrong, but it definitely was a platformer. It was a cocktail game that didn't have a title, and I forget how the title screen looked. +GoldLeader
Sometimes it's easy to get things confused...For example, Sea Wolf and Polaris...Which is which? Which one had the speedboat? My memory was great when I was a kid too! Not so much anymore haha...Granted things are a lot easier to figure out now that we have the internet. I could look up almost any game and see a video of it being played if I wanted to... (Or I might ask you guys haha)... Music is easier to identify, too,...Though my friend made the point that in the 70's and 80's a radio DJ would seem like they went out of their way to mention Every song they had just played EXCEPT THE ONE YOU WONDERED ABOUT! Nowadays you can look up song lyrics, or whatever movie trailer or commercial just played a song you were curious about, though I think if ever you need an instrumental song identified You're still screwed...At least if the song is in your head...
