Replacing 4116 ram with 4164 for reliability

I do this mod to Williams arcade boards that use the 4116 ram.. luckily they are all socketed so it's pretty easy..

 

 

The 4116 and 4164 chips are nearly identical with two exceptions

so if you cut off pin 1, and bend out pin 8, trim and jumper to pin 9 you have a 4116 replacement that uses less power, lower heat and higher reliability.

I like it. I was thinking it is a shame to waste 48kb (bits) of memory, but the 4164s are likely much easier to find (and I will be looking to upgrade a couple of Commodore REUs,) and maybe with a little extra logic one could make the VDP's 16k space bank-switchable.
