+Vorticon
Hi. Does anyone here know what type of battery the BWG controller takes? The schematics only mention a 3.5V lithium battery which I assume is a rechargeable one, and the picture of the board on the SNUG site shows a cylindrical battery with leads. I can't seem to find anything similar on the web...

The schematics only mention a 3.5V lithium battery which I assume is a rechargeable one, and the picture of the board on the SNUG site shows a cylindrical battery with leads. I can't seem to find anything similar on the web... I have heard the LS14250 Lithium Cell is the closest and the specs are below. Someone will need to chime in that has replaced it. the Operating voltage says 3.5v. Size 1/2 AA Lithium battery ER14250 Specification: 1) Nominal voltage: 3.6V 2) Nominal capacity: 1200mAh 3) Discharge end-voltage: 2.0V 4) Operating voltage: 3.5V 5) Ambient temperature range: -55~ +85°C 6) Storage life: ≥10 years, Yearly self-discharge ≤ 1%
atrax27407
Send Richard Bell an email. He could tell you for sure since he repairs them.
Shift838
i would also wonder if it's possible to use a coincell battery instead. I think you would need to know the milliamps required, etc.
+Vorticon
I ordered the ER14250 battery. It does not have leads, but that can be fixed. I'll give it a shot
+OLD CS1
What about using a 3.2V LiPO?
+Vorticon
What about using a 3.2V LiPO? There is no charging circuit on the card, so that would not be practical.
atrax27407
BTW, my "10 year lifespan" battery lasted 16 years before replacement was needed.
+Schmitzi
I have two BwG´s, both have a 3 Volt cell. I found out and ordered some "3 volt VARTA CR 1/2AACD axial 950mA" 2 months ago, (but did not have the time to change that yet).

+OLD CS1
DOH.. a Homer moment for me. I missed that one. I cannot believe there is not a reasonable replacement. I would venture Varta has something similar. Mind, I am not opposed to the idea of building a simple charging circuit for a NiMH or NiCD (shudder) replacement. +Schmitzi
The one I showed is the successor, and is available here. Also, it has more mAh (950), so it will last longer. (The more, the better) I have mounted them yesterday, works. (Of course, no reason not to work) If anybody is in need, just let me know. There will be a way over the ocean. xXx
atrax27407
As I wrote earlier, send Richard Bell an email and he can tell you definitively which battery you need and probaby where to get one. As Andy said to Aunt Bea "Call the man".

+Schmitzi
Hi, yes of course no prob. So the plan could be to wait a few days now, to see if more users need it, and to see if anyone maybe finds the battery on your site, though. Let´s meet here again, same place, some days later xXx PS: I just have checked it, it is available here. If I bundle the order with some other parts I need, there won´t be any shipping costs to my house. So this is below 4 euros per battery at all. For the ship to US, I´ll have to find out the cheapest way. Maybe it is a good choice to bundle that, if more of you want it, too ? So one could be the "hub" (But maybe the ship goes cheap, on so a small part.)
+Vorticon
Thanks Schmitzi. After a further search I found this one in the US: http://www.atbatt.com/xeno-energy-xl-050f-ax-1-2-aa-36v-lithium-battery-with-axial-leads.asp Sounds like it should work. What do you think?
+Schmitzi
The only difference I can see is that it has 3.6 Volts "Operating 3.4 V". (instead of regulary 3.0 V) ... I don´t know about these things, and if this is a problem. I measured my new 3.0 V-one with 3.2 Volts, so this seems close.... BUT I have to review that tonight (I have one more here)
+Ksarul
Of course, you could also put a battery holder for the half-AA sized batteries in and then use pretty much any of the multitude of available 3V batteries that fit into them. +Schmitzi
Hi, just to make it complete, from my side: Here are my 2 old batteries, I presume they are "almost empty" (both are labeld "3 Volt") : And the new battery, 3 Volts too, but delivers a bit more:
+Schmitzi
EDIT: YES, I am an advanced user of this strange "water resistant-auto power off"- tool: I am able to use " Battery, Currency(Strom) and Beep ♪ " And I know about this "red is black and plus+ is minus-"-thing... or so

+Schmitzi
yes, the new 3V´s (showing 3.23V) work (means, if I power off, the time/date is fine next day) One thing, the day-of-the-weak is interpreted wrong, maybe another Y2K feature
