New Arcade/MAME HSC Moderator Needed

Recommended Posts

I didn't want to post this in the Arcade/MAME HSC forum cuz I prefer to keep the thread listing nice and tidy.

I warned you guys earlier in the season that I was looking for a new job and the time may come that I can no longer moderate the HSC. Well that time has come.

I'm hoping that the new moderator will be given the same rights I have to the forum to edit, pin and lock threads to keep things tidy. Also, I'm hoping that the new moderator will keep the HSC scoreboards up to date since a lot of work was put into them by various forum members.

Who's up for the task?

Time's yours...

Does this mean you found a new gig? Congrats!

I am potentially interested but I confess I don't fully understand the stats/scoring system or where you pull the previous scores from.

Scoring system should be listed in the rules thread. 11 points for 1st, 10 points for 2nd, 9 points for 3rd etc...

There are two threads that contain the historical HSC score data. Only the top scores for each player are listed.

MAME ROMsets and DIP switch settings can be found in the HSC score threads if they have been played previously. If a game is being played for the first time ever, I consult Twin Galaxies web site for the ROMset and DIP switch settings.

I guess I never noticed those threads before. Thanks for the info.

As I say, I may be interested but I'd also be interested in slightly changing up the format in order to make it simpler to moderate and hopefully generate more buzz/participation.

  • I think every week is pretty aggressive to moderate and too easy to miss a favorite game. Maybe a bi-weekly or even monthly format?
  • To compensate for the less frequent format, each challenge would be a themed tournament featuring several games. So even if it were monthly we could feature 4 games during that challenge allowing players to focus their efforts on a favorite or split their time accordingly. Personally I always enjoyed the double-headers and multi-game tournaments the most.
  • Challenge themes could be anything from all Pac-Man games to seasonal themes or games that share a certain trait. We could still take game requests and themes would be created around those titles. I may supplement challenges with other titles to enhance the theme. Moderator perks.
  • I'd also encourage more sharing of strategies, links, memories, trash-talking, bragging, whatever per challenge thread. Not mandatory but it could make it more fun to participate. A less frequent format would allow me to research each game a little more and add relevant links, photos, videos, whatever per thread to provide a little more background and generate more buzz.
Thoughts? If anyone else is interested in stepping in and maintaining the current format I'm happy to step aside and continue to just play. But if nobody else is interested in moderating I'd be interested in feedback on the above.

Bueller? Bueller? Anyone? Bueller?

Any comments on the above proposal? 100 views and nobody has a comment?

Maybe I should make a separate thread to outline my proposal. Although I have the feeling it's the same 7 people who have consistently contributed and only do so when convenient. I get that. Anything in the above that would prevent you from still taking part?

Or is it time to retire it here and take part in challenges elsewhere?

I did not play much in the past but since I finally got my MAME setup up and working, I would like to take part more on regular bases.

Format of 1 game for every 2 weeks would be fine for me. I have more chance to participate and if a good game, then also get more into it. Theme rounds could be even longer.

More chatting and posting comments would be also appretiated rather than posting scores only. Atari 8bit HSC is a good example.

I truly hope we will get this HSC live again.
