Space Age Joystick Repair

I just purchased an Atari Space Age Joystick, but the red trigger fire button doesn't work. Everything else works fine, and is super smooth, but only button won't work. Can anyone make any suggestions as to how to fix it cause I'm at a loss as it is very different from a standard joystick.

try some conductive paint on the flex circuit if you see an obvious break in it

 

it could also be the end of the cable that plugs into the console , but more likely a break in the flex circuit

the broken stuff was how I received the item , hotmelt glue & some paperclips works ok, just try and not to break yours

 

I could not remove joystick handle from top and didn't seem to need to

 

I did remove halves from under it to pull flex circuit around to examine
