Still "trying" to dump my remaining Apple /// stuff.

Everyone knows I'm into the Apple II series. Those are life keepers.

But I keep hemming and hawing and going back & forth about purging all my Apple /// stuff. It's about a tenth the amount of my II stuff and therefore only fills a closet at best.

But every time I reference the Apple-In-Depth catalogs from 1980 it makes me feel like my II stuff wouldn't be complete without the /// baggage.

In the past I've deduped and curbsided some /// stuff. But I still got plenty of it, still..

..and round and round we go. One of those OCD retard things I guess.

Downsizing, curating, focusing, that sort of thing. So many doubles and triples and more. Don't need 4 //c monitor stands. I do have a core collection of Apple II material which is a life keeper and so far it fills about a 3rd to 1/2 of my F150.

It's a real pain, because some of this material I get (had gotten!) for cheap. Can't pass up a deal. You know, visions of grandeur about opening a museum and all that nonsense.

Or some people (estate sellers) just want it gone, and I become the trash pickup man for that instant. And just the other day I picked up a //c at a thrift store for $3.62. No classic computing enthusiast in his right mind is going to walk away from that! I'm hoping it has the older motherboard. If it does, I'll retrobright it, burn it in, wash the mobo, reseat the chips, adjust and align and clean the drive, remove the pubes from the keyboard, and basically spiff it up spotless. Though it's in pretty good condition. Most //cs have a thin fiber lining under the vents thus keeping a lot of dust out.

If not, into the "disposal" pile it goes.. Because I already have a //c with the mobo with the expansion connector.

Make sense now?

yea back in the 90's when computer technology was moving at light speed it was easy to pick stuff up. There was this one place in our town that would get piles of stuff when places upgraded, it was great as you could walk in and see a pallette of mixed mac II's for 5 bucks a pop.

not like that now!

Yeah I get ya. I never seem to run into these "good deals" that you speak of.

Nowadays I have "instructed" my buddies to keep an eye out for Apple II material. That helps. I believe the best time for free stuff was when schools were getting rid their II systems. It was basic stuff, no exotic cards or anything. But it sure was plentiful.

I had a shitbox beater and sometimes I'd pack it full till the suspension sagged.
