+InsaneMultitasker
It seemed appropriate to start a new thread. Heatwave BBS has been back online since Mad Hatter provided the files to me. The "testing" seems to have gone well, so I will plan to keep the BBS online going forward. I have not yet moved the BBS to its final hardware home, which means it is still running on my well-traveled Geneve programming system. You can get to it via telnet at heatwave.ddns.net port 9640 For those of you using the F18A, I recommend trying TIMXT at 38.4K. I have been making some tweaks and updates to the program but I don't yet have an ETA for its next release. Geneve users can use PORT, also at 38.4k.

+InsaneMultitasker
What's the direct number again? IF you mean phone number, Heatwave is Telnet only, unless you dial up through The KEEP. If you meant IP, it is currently 74.193.1.67 but that may change periodically. If Stuart's web browser resolves IP addresses, maybe there is a simple way to incorporate that into TIMXT and leverage the same setup. All I know is the UDS by itself cannot resolve addresses, even the new models seem limited in this fashion.

It is an F18A update to Super Mass Transfer that includes color ANSI and high speed RS232 without the need for a special cable. Post #18 contains the latest released version. I am still working on a few changes for the next update.. http://atariage.com/forums/topic/249947-some-interesting-things-are-afoot-with-timxt-and-the-bbss/?view=findpost&p=3502710&hl=%2Btimxt

Problem is how to use it with the Heatwave since there is no dialup? I do have a UDS-10 which I have used to connect to Stuart's browser, but how would that work with TIMXT?
+InsaneMultitasker
(Copied post from another thread) The UDS has two connection modes. The modem emulation mode uses a subset of the Hayes command set. For example, ATDT192.168.1.1 would tell the UDS to open a telnet connection to IP address 192.168.1.1 port 23. To specify the port, you would use a comma or slash in most cases. ATDT192.168.1.1,9640 would open a telnet connection to the same IP address, this time with port 9640. The direct connection mode is quite rudimentary by comparison. If your UDS is configured to work with the TI browser, you will be flying "blind" so to speak. There will be no echoing of the commands, and you can no longer use the Hayes command set. Instead, you must use the letter "C" to initiate a connection. Example: C192.168.1.1,9640. TIMXT has a partially complete macro routine to help with this. Unfortunately, until I finalize the next update, the only way to change the macro string is by sector editing TIMXT. A exclamation point signifies a Carriage Return and ends the macro, and each entry is approximately 30 characters. So if you wanted to add Fusion, Heatwave, and TheKEEP to your macros, you could edit the strings accordingly. I suspect a general write-up is probably needed to more completely explain the modes and their uses.
EKMELSOFT
I am happy to see such a great effort to keep such a long term contact point in the TI community going on. I don't do any dial out stuff but this is such a rich part of our history. I think everyone remembers AOL in the 90's - everyone was on dial up. Great job everyone involved!!
+Vorticon
So I have been unable to connect to the Heatwave bbs using TIMXT and my UDS-10. I am using the same setup I use for the TI browser which works fine. Has the IP address of the BBS changed by any chance? When I try to connect, all I get is an N on the screen and then nothing. As far as I know, I am using the latest version of TIMXT.

I checked - the IP is still the same ( 74.193.1.67 ) Try pinging the URL (heatwave . ddns . net) with spaces removed, and see if it resolves to the IP address. Using windows, open a command prompt and type PING heatwave . ddns . net. You will get an "N" response if someone else is connected, or if the connection cannot be made for other reasons. Be sure to type carefully. Remember to also type the ",9640". The comma is important.

So looking at the Macro menu in TIMXT, I noticed that the entries starting with C used "/9640", not ",9640". I tried that and it worked! I am also able to connect to The Keep BBS, but no ANSI colors are displayed in that case for some reason, unlike the Heatwave. I'm really ecstatic to be able to telnet directly on my TI. Now working on getting downloads to work as well.

Now working on getting downloads to work as well. Cool! The Lantronix UDS-10 documentation shows both commas and slashes as acceptable delimiters. Perhaps this isn't true of all firmware revisions and/or models? Link to the user guide: http://www.lantronix.com/wp-content/uploads/pdf/UDS10-UDS100_UG.pdf I mistakenly remembered the slash and period as interchangeable. My mistake. See pages 28-33. When using the manual connect mode only the slash may be used to delimit the IP address and port. Modem emulation allows both. (Silly IMHO). For manual connect mode: "If present, the port number must follow the IP address, must be a decimal number in the range 1-65535, and must be preceded by a forward slash (ASCII 0x2F). The slash separates the IP address and the port number. If you omit the port number from a command string, the internally stored remote port number becomes the destination port number when the connection attempt is made." (p.29) For The Keep, the TIMXT ANSI interpreter is an older version of what I wrote for PORT, which likely does not have the ANSI query / response routine in place. I think the BBS has a setting you can change to enable color during the session. I bet Greg knows what that is Edited November 22, 2016 by InsaneMultitasker

Omega-TI
Heatwave will be offline periodically this weekend (11/25-11/27). I need to move some hardware around and complete some BBS maintenance. I really need to get back into the habit of calling the BBS. In fact so much has gone on with the 38.4 and both the browser and TIMXT using the same settings that I really should update my now obsolete manual.

+InsaneMultitasker
My ISP upgraded my cable modem today. Looks like the IP address has changed as a result. I also had to reset the port forwarding for the BBS port 9640, so if someone has a chance to telnet in and test functionality, that would be appreciated.
