Scramble (Atari 7800): 81,820

Wonderful choice for this week Mister-VCS! It's great to see homebrew games getting a little love in the Atari 7800 HSC, and you can never go wrong with anything from PacManPlus. :)

I was having some serious trouble breaking 30,000 until I finally figured out the right technique for navigating the maze in Stage 5, but once I got that down it was pretty smooth sailing until Round 4; at which point not running out of fuel becomes the biggest challenge.

That's not the newest version posted there - this is. :) (There were a few bugs in that version, and I added side columns in this so as to not distract the player with the scrolling).

Carry on... ;)

Woah! I had never played the newest version with side columns until you posted it there, but they really do make a huge difference and make the scrolling feel silky smooth and just like the original arcade game. Fantastic work! Will the final cartridge release for the Atari 2600 version of Scramble have side columns as well?

Darn, can't join this session, don't have this game :(

Emulation is allowed for regular 7800 HSC - MESS, Prosystem Emulator and EMU7800.

PacManPlus provided the Scramble ROM for use with emulators.

Prosystem Emulator 1.3e, with 2 fire buttons working:

Try also Prosystem Emulator last update - 1.3g (difficulty switches visible on menu bar!)

Unless otherwise noted by Mister-VCS, always set BOTH difficulty switches to B / Novice / Left Position (Console and Emulation).

I don't know if the 2600 will have those; I didn't work on that one ;)

However, I believe John is using the entire screen, so there is no need for the columns.

also, thank you for the kind words :)

Whoops! My apologies for the confusion, for some reason I thought that you were doing both the 7800 and 2600 versions of Scramble. In any case, brilliant job on this one once again. I've been playing the Konami arcade version of Scramble for a long time and I don't think anyone could have done a better job of porting it to the Atari 7800. It's really flawless! :)

Indeed. If you happen to have a Nintendo Wii that's been soft modded with the Homebrew Channel there is also a very nice port of ProSystem Emulator available for the Wii: http://wiibrew.org/wiki/Wii7800

Sometimes we all have to settle for second (or third) best. Or just keep trying until you either succeed or want to pull your hair out, that works too. 71,020 is still a very respectable score and nothing to feel bad about.

heh...no, it's more like I posted that I finally beat Oyamafamily, and then immediately Oyamafamily turns around and shows me who's boss. :)
