Blues76
Hello, My memory may be failing but I remember that I purchased a "coleco" game Smurf (My parents purchased it). However, thinking about this now I'm a bit confused. Was this a Coleco port by coleco that was playable in 2600 (maybe with lower quality graphics)? Therefore, the game I had (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Smurf:_Rescue_in_Gargamel%27s_Castle) was an atari 2600 version?
eightbit
Well, the screenshot from your link is the Colecovision version. But, there was also an Atari 2600 version. Here's a video about it:
Blues76
Well, the screenshot from your link is the Colecovision version. But, there was also an Atari 2600 version. Here's a video about it: Yeah, I'm sure I had the 2600... but I was so young that because it said "Coleco", for some reason, It seemed to me that was for both systems.... Coleco looks a lot better for the same game obviously.
eightbit
Yep, Coleco published games for the 2600 as well and the carts did say Coleco on them. This was not that bad of a port (the 2600 port that is) however. I have seen much worse on the 2600 That said I of course much prefer the Colecovision version which is what I grew up on. It looked just like the cartoon....at least to me in
TPR
Yep, the two co-exist just fine...
Pixelboy
If you recall the system having "Coleco" on it, then it was probably a Coleco Gemini, which was a clone of the Atari 2600.
Blues76
Without going on a tangent, I wonder how different was the gameplay with the coleco controllers. I never tried them. All of this as I have been thinking to get me coleco console now.
Flojomojo
I don't think that's a tangent at all, you started the topic and it's very general -- Smurfs, Coleco, Atari ... I remember seeing that game on ColecoVision for the first time and being totally awed by the wonderful, cartoon style graphics. Then crushingly disappointed that you DIE if you walk into a fence. +nanochess
The smurfs rescue game for the Atari was very well done and includes very nice visual effects. I'm wondering who was the programmer.

+nanochess
Cool to know Very well done games. Now I'm wondering why he didn't continue with Coleco ports...

+nanochess
Just found the notebooks of Henry Will IV http://atariage.com/forums/topic/247186-library-of-technical-documents-jwda-henry-will-iv/ (locate as Wickstead Notebook) His website is right there http://henrywill4.com/, sadly no mention of Atari in resume only mention of working in Wickstead, he now works at IBM. So I can only say that probably Coleco didn't want to continue working with Wickstead, so Henry Will IV didn't had to make any other games.
