Scooter83
I'm looking for a quick and painless way to mod y system to be a developers system. I was told it's a bios swap so I assum a simple chip swap. Burn an eprom with the correct bios so I can play unencrypted games. What would be the best easiest and painless way to tackle this. This way I can test put 2 eprom boards I got today. Edited December 17, 2016 by Scooter83

Scooter83
Cool thanks. Just need to find a way to burn it to a chip and install after and should be good to go. Was never aware there were atari 7800 roms that woud nt play on a 7800 without the dev bios mod.

sn8k
There is something called a developer cart which is needed for certain games. Don't know of games that will run on only on dev consoles but know of ones that require a dev cart and refuse to be emulated.
Scooter83
I have 2 rom boards for the 3600/7800. Atari lab temperature 5/11/84 3600 asteroids part# Rev 8 and a check sum The 7800 diagnostic cart v. 1.00 works on the normal system as it is
Scooter83
Also heard the atari lab rom should work with a 7800 keyboard that never came out. So I guess this was a work in progress but in the middle of research on both asteroids and atari lab game rom boards

+-^CrossBow^-
I thought Curt mentioned at one time that he has one of the temperature carts for the 7800? But I don't think it was ever dumped because it required additional hardware in order to use it.

But as you said they all need extra equipment.

Tempest
They need extra equipment correct, but the carts have been dumped. That's good. As long as the data has been preserved.

If I recall, Dan Kramer also has a 7800 AtariLab ROM. But no way of dumping it. It would be interesting to see if it, BASIC, and the Word Processor would work with the XEGS Keyboard via the XM without code modification. I suspect not. Glenn the 5200 Man in his Antic Podcast interview claimed to have several unreleased 7800 protos. Seems he was interacting with Atari staff both during the Atari Inc and Atari Corp days so who knows what the guy has in his possession. He didn't exactly elaborate.
