Hi Every one,

 

This year my present to the community is this fast and funny game.

 

Just for information:

It's my very first attempt to write something for the VCS

 

Game, Music-tracker and winning-tunes, I wrote myself.

The intro-music is composed by my nephew Marc Jaschusch.

 

The game is free, for personal use only.

For Harmony, emulator or home-brew if you can do this.

All you need will be ready for download before Christmas.

So this is like Artillery Duel?

I'm guessing it takes multiple shots to destroy your opponent's castle which would make the game somewhat different than Artillery Duel. You can also dodge boulders.

That was my thought, too. It looks like it. Hopefully it has uses the Atarivox+ for voice. =)

Yes, it's a 2600 version of Smithereens (aka Stone Sling in Europe)!

I had a chance to beta test game. It's a great 2 player simultaneous artillery duel type game. A lot of fun.

Looks like a lot of fun! I've always enjoyed Artillery Duel style games so I'll be looking forward to popping Defend your Castle on my Harmony cart and trying it out this Christmas!

After browsing through the manual, I'd like to make a request:

Would you mind making an alternate version with the BW/Color setting reversed so that the default (Color) is NTSC rather than BW being NTSC?  Having the default (Color) being PAL will cause issues with NTSC 7800s due to the momentary switch.  Also, if this game ends up being compatible with the Atari Flashback Portables, the bottom of the screen will be cut off due to it defaulting to PAL.  The TV mode switch on those is a momentary switch like the 7800, so having "Color" be NTSC will fix that issue as well.  Making an alternate version with those settings reversed will prevent a lot of heartache from NTSC 7800 and FB Portable users. 

 

...unless you've already programmed it to be compatible with the 7800 switch.  Then this may be a useless post.

Good point about PAL/NTSC-selection.

 

The reason for default/PAL is, that I live in Netherlands :-)

The only physical switch I could use is difficulty, since that is connected to IO.

Nah, that's not so cool as using the Color/BW-switch.

 

I will include a NTSC-only version is you want to run it on a system/emulator without this switch.
