Blues76
Hello, I have an Amiga 600. I was going to sell it but the floppy disk drive is not working. I decided for now to upgraded and maybe at a later time sell it, once I know everything is working (but maybe I will just keep it). Anyways, I sow in eBay a few items for the Amiga and I want to take your feedback on them * GoTek Usb Floppy Drive Emulator (I found two of them in eBay) [a] http://www.ebay.com/itm/Gotek-USB-Floppy-Drive-Emulator-for-Amiga-500-600-1200-4000-BONUS-/152344512213?hash=item237870c6d5:g:7wYAAOSw~gRVgfq9 http://www.ebay.com/itm/Gotek-ADF-Floppy-Drive-Emulator-8GB-USB-Stick-for-Amiga-500-600-1200-4000-/301976968423?hash=item464f3adce7:g:q0AAAOSwUEVYDimk This is probably worth it, right? what's the difference between those two? Is this the best one available ? * Hard Drive Adapter Kit * Assuming that my Drive works (floppy disk drive), can I take it out and make it external? any tips? * How to get it to the latest ROM available for the workbench that this computer takes? Thanks,
Laner
I don't have any experience with the Gotek/HxC drives, but they seem to be pretty popular. They all work about the same as far as I can tell. The IDE/Compact Flash adapter is a must-have. Much faster, and silent compared to the stock hard drives. Not sure about making the current floppy drive an external drive. You can get a Kickstart 3.1 ROM from eBay or Amigakit ( http://amigakit.leamancomputing.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=96). Just make sure you get the A600 version. If you do decide to sell it, shoot me a PM
Muzz73
You could just sell me the A600 and I'll put a Gotek drive in it...

Is this the best one available ? It's definitely good enough. The way that it works is that you place as many .adf files as you like (within reason, I suppose) on the USB drive, and you select the image that you want to load by either a menu selection, or selecting the "track" by way of the Gotek's external buttons and rebooting. You shouldn't have to re-flash either one (after all, they are already setup to work on Amigas), but if need be, you can check out this post if you have any trouble. http://www.amibay.com/showthread.php?82081-gotek-quot-Unrecognized-Device-quot-SOLVED * Hard Drive Adapter Kit That too, should work just fine. You can make an image in Whdload and copy it to your CF card rather than building it from scratch on the A600. * Assuming that my Drive works (floppy disk drive), can I take it out and make it external? any tips? Just one. Don't cut up your case if you can avoid it. As for the floppy drive, ditch it for the Gotek. * How to get it to the latest ROM available for the workbench that this computer takes? Thanks, Look for KS3.1. I get mine from this guy: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Licenced-ROM-3-1-for-Commodore-Amiga-computers-500-500-600-2000-/152413500764?hash=item237c8d755c:g:E94AAOSweW5VdurD You will need to tell him that it's for an A600 when you order it. dR_wH0
Why use Kickstart 3.1 rom if you plan on playing adf files from the gotek ? You'll have many incompatibilities with games that don't work. Most ECS/OCS games require 1.2/1.3/2.04 Kickstart roms. You'll have to resort to ReloKick or similar programs to avoid incompatibilities. 3.1 on the other hand, is a great option if you're planning on using your 600 a bit more. That means installing a humble accelerator (ACA,Furia or Vampire), some extra ram and a CF/SD card for a hard disk. Then you can get really going by installing all the games you want in WHDLoad version! Currently my Amiga 600 is more or less like that : Kickstart 3.1 , Furia 020 Accelerator, A604n Memory expansion, SD2IDE adapter, KA47 IDE Riser and an 8GB Sandisk Ultra SD Card. tjlazer
There is no Amiga 600 version of kickstart 3.1, it shares the same chip as the A500/2000 version.
