peekb
Hi all, I have an EPROM cart with a pre-release copy of Klax that I bought looooong ago, and which has been sitting in storage for quite a while. I have dumped the EPROM (finally bought a new EPROM programmer this week!) and wanted to share with the community, but don't want to potentially break any forum rules by uploading or linking to it. Is it ok to attach to a post or link from a message here? If not, any other suggestions, assuming there's even any interest? I have played the cart and I haven't been able to determine what's different, but the ROM dump itself doesn't match any of the known dumps I've been able to find, so it's definitely not the final retail release. Thanks! Brian

Lynxman
Sound "Klax wave" have lower volume. The title screen with the amazing music is missing. It is not possible to choose easy, medium, hard. Game play i could find no difference. (tested only 20 minutes...)
Guitari
I can verify that. I've found the same as Lynxman. If I had more time I'd explore further.

JagChris
Which was more popular in the arcade? Klax or Columns?

It was probably a near thing, but it's possible that Klax would have been the winner in arcades in 1990: Quote In Japan, Game Machine listed Klax in its April 1, 1990 issue as being the seventh most-successful table arcade unit of the year I can't imagine that that trend held up over time, though, as Columns is just so ubiquitous. I can't imagine that many people have even heard of Klax these days outside of retro circles, even though it's an incredible game and one of my favourite arcade puzzlers.
JagChris
I know it was nowhere near the popularity of Tetris. And Columns seemed like a Tetris knock off. Thanks for the info. I bought Klax for my cousins PS2 in an arcade pack and he claimed he liked Tetris better but played the crap out of it until he beat it with a million continues.
