Stun Runner 87 Posted January 10, 2017 Share Posted January 10, 2017 for some strange reason i just took my lynx 1 apart again and now i cant get the back cover on the cart door side to screw back in all the way....im really struggling with this. ? It didn't do this last time I took it apart. Doesn't make sense. Does anyonw know wgat the problem is? +Stephen Moss Posted January 10, 2017 Share Posted January 10, 2017 I have never taken a Lynx apart but two possibilities immediately sprint to mind... 1) The cover is not correctly located leaving a gap which the screw is to short to bridge 2) Some of the screws are slightly longer than others and you have used a longer one where you should not have leaving you with one that is to short for where you are trying to use it. U might be right. Its a Mcwill mod, so it had to be taken apart before. There's 4 Screws. For the cart door side(side with the d pad) the 2 shorter screws go in. On the button side, the 2 longer screws go in, so I know I put them in right spots. The last time I opened the case was over a month ago. I screwed them in real tight when I put it back on, Maybe too tight. I opened it again yesterday to clean dust off of Mcwill screen surface. When I put it back together yesterday, thats when I noticed I couldnt get the screws to screw in. They Dont stay in. Could the reason be because of the last time I opened it up a month ago when I might of screwed the screws way too tight? And if so, can it be fixed. Or does it need a whole new back cover? ? I've had this happen on two Lynx I's. I've tried repairs with plastic epoxy/filler, no luck. In the end I used screws that were a tiny bit longer that could bit into the plastic at the end of the mounting holes, being careful to not have too long of screws to go through the case. Its funny you said that, because I can see am indentation on the front shellcase where screws went almost completely through, most likely from previous owner. I think Best Electronics sells replacement shells, because it most likely will need it now. Thanks for the reply my friend. I will contact you in the near future in regards to my other Lynx 2 when im ready for upgrades. You did an excellent job when you did my Mcwill for my Lynx 2. It works great, and you were right. At this point, anyone doing mods on the Lynx I should really consider it an open it once, get it done and leave it alone thing (I wouldn't open it for cleanings regularly).I still Dont understand why a slightly longer screw wouldnt help reach the bottom of the screw hole that isn't worn out.The reason I say that is because when the shell cover is off, the screws reach fine. Its when I put cover shell back on that the screws Dont reach plastic that isn't worn. The last resort I can think of is Krazy Glue or cement..LoL, There isnsomthing that Ace Hardware sells called "Lock Tight" that's made for screws when the threads Dont grip hole. but that would mean shell will be permanately closed. Try longer screws or a new case. I tried to find longer screws at Menards and radio shack but they didn't have the size I needed. I was looking for some just a tad bit longer than originals. I went to ace hardware earlier and bought 2 screws a half inch longer than originals, and they griped perfectly. Simple solution that worked. Case is securely closed now.
